OnStar marketing budget, anyone know...kind of rant

Since no one really seems to care about OnStar or it doesn't seem to have any kind of effect on the purchasing choice of a car, how much is GM dumping into OnStar advertising alone that could be used instead for cars like the Astra, G6, Aura, etc?

I, for one, couldn't care less about OnStar. My 5th gen will not be equipped with it.

I love OnStar, and after my trial subscription expries, I always re-up the base package... if you ask for the promotion rate of $12.95 per month in stead of the standard $16.95, they usually will give it to you even if you weren't sent a notice.

I think a lot more people like OnStar than a lot of people think. Human nature is to complain about something you do not like rather than praise something you do... therefore you hear more from people who do not want it.

Gm spent over half a billion on OnStar and is now jamming it down our throats as standard equipment. It will be on the new Camaro with one year service included in price. After the first year, you can decide to opt out.

Worse yet is they're pretending it's a suitable replacement for navigation.

Funny but Onstar turn by turn directions actually helped me locate the current house I live in when it was for sale. Directions I had took me to a dead end street. Ended up calling Onstar and they talked me right to the address. Had to go 8 miles round about the neighborhood to reach it. Made an offer on the house the next day and 3 years later couldn't be happier. One time I was glad to have Onstar.

Still think a Garmin NAV system is better though. Great maps and very intuitive.

I think Onstar is a great idea, and I look forward to having it on my next car.

Pretty much ANY nav system is better unless it's DVD based and the DVD is out of date and you're trying to find newly built road.

Every customer that I have shown how to use OnStar's navigational feature has positively loved the ease of simply calling up OnStar and telling them where to go and having the directions sent to their vehicle. Rather than pressing button after button, one press of the OnStar button and your on you way. Plus, with now being able to go to Mapquest.com and send the directions to your car has made planned trips that much easier as well.

For what it's worth, my customers that have had in-dash and portable navs enjoy the simplicity of the OnStar. That's not to say the a portable units don't have some advantages, but for the purpose of getting where you need to go without hassle in a timely fashion and having to play the button game, real-world customers have really enjoyed OnStar's navigational capability and its mulititude of other helpful features.

Onstar is awesome. I thought it was useless and talked down about it like everyone else who has never had it. I'm going to continue to pay for it, thats for sure.
