Angry The one name GM should have changed and they keep it..

So i just saw the resualts of the mirco car roof strength test = http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/iihs...-roof-tests/#4

..and the Aveo is terrible. Just another black eye for this already unloved brand name. Yet out of all the Good names that GM has scraped (Blazer, TrailBlazer, Cobalt, Grand Prix, Grand Am) They keep this one. Aveo is a name with no history, no fan base, and the brand recognition it does have is negative. Yet this name will be carried on to the all new 2011 Car

I'd rather see the 2011 gamma car be called Cobalt. Spark<Cobalt<Cruze<Malibu

Maybe instead of Aveo, they should call it the Chevrolet Headknocker.

Heritage High Roof name didn't make much sense on the modern looking 2nd gen (Orlando, another terrible name)

History???

Fan base???

Brand recognition???

We're talking about a cheap, disposable, car that can be bought by college student with the change they find under their chair cushions or people who are tired of riding the bus. We aren't talking about cars our grandparents had whose back seats concieved our parents.

No one cares about history at that price level. They only care about what they get for the money, and how cheap they can get it for. It wouldn't be a streach to say buyers of these types of cars knowledge of their car stops at where they put the gas in and "when the oil light comes on, it's time for an oil change".

Echo, Accent, and GLC were once popular cars. Mention their names to anyone this weekend, and you'd likely get a blank stare.

That's probably most sad for the Accent, since it's still in production.

Wonder what it would be like if this were the 2010 MazdaSpeed GLC?

I would have liked to see the Kappa cars continued with the Solstice moved to Chevy, refreshed and rebadged as a Monza.

But then, right from the start I thought Tempest would have been a better choice than Solstice.

*shrug*

it's time GM fall back on marketing dollars already spent, recognition already built, legacy already on track. aveo is now recognized as the cheap car from chevy. next will be to make it desirable and fun to own.

So let me get this right. We, the "GM Faithful" bitch when they change the name of cars generation after generation.

Then again...We, the "GM Faithful" bitch when they keep the name of cars they are trying to build chache with?

Seriously? And for the record, GM is putting a heavy focus on small cars now. More than ever before. I say keep the name in the small car segment. It is one of GM's best selling cars in the C4C program.

Those buyers will have to return at some point and if another car named "Aveo" does it for them - I'm game.

Yup, but only when they bail on the good names and keep the bad ones. Do you for some reason feel Aveo has more value than Grand Prix, Trailblazer, Grand Am, or Cobalt?

Aveo IMHO is the one car GM would have been justified in changing the name.

Are we talking "old GM" that had to push cars to push cars?

Or are we talking "new GM" that makes cars people want to buy?

If it's the former, Pontiac would still be around, so would Grand Prix and Grand Am. But they aren't. Trailblazer started off as an off trim of the Chevy Blazer and morphed into its own name - a large SUV. Not what "new GM" needs.

If it's the latter....Aveo makes sense. I summed it up in my post - C4C was a huge success (an automotive buying program sponsored by the Government) and one of GM's best selling cars during C4C was the Aveo.

They'd be stupid to ditch the name - the return buyers look for another "Aveo" and find a "Spark" or whatever you want to call it, they'll be just like a Ford customer when the 500 was out and they were wanting a Taurus.

Subaru GLC? I had a hatch back. I loved the Gas milege, was impressed that its 4wd was good in the snow. I even pulled out my buddies S10 when he got it stuck in the mud.

Slow as hell though. How slow it was drove me nuts to the point I couldnt take it. It was boring to drive. If I was in a tight spot financially which I was and needed bare bones car 4wd to boot, that would be my pick.
