Of course, theyve already shown us a concept with an LS2, and Ive seen pics of a private individual with an LS1 Colorado.
They dont have the ***** to tell the engineers to make it fit 'is all.

The ford expedition got along fine for years with a 215hp and then a 230hp 4.6l v8. Its 5000lbs +. I dont see this as a problem for the h3. I am looking forward to this truck to tell the truth.

While that is true, it is model year 2005, not 1997. I'm sure the H3 will have enough power to get out of its own way, but not much more than that.

I think the I5 is OK for the base engine (look at the base engine in the less capable Grand Cherokee...). But, the GC offers the 4.7 and the 5.7 "hemi" as options, while the H3 currently has none. Remebmer that the new XTerra has a rather stout ~260 hp six cylinder. It may not have quite the capability of the H3 (and it is uglier than sin), but it is reputedly pretty good off road, and will smash the H3 in acceleration.
Drop the dang 6.0L in and be done with it.
BTW, a V8 fits in the engine bay just fine in the GMT355s (and 345s). I believe that the problem is that the exhaust manifolds will interfere with the torsion bars on 4x4 models (not a problem on the 2wd Colorado SS and Dream Cruise concepts). The exhaust pipe would have to take on an odd shape to go between the torsion bar and the frame, which might cost a few hp. I say big deal.
I personally would not be AT ALL surprised to see a small block show up in the H3 pretty soon, but we'll have to wait and see.

In my opinion, this is a real screw-up for GM. The way I see it, people don't buy hummers to be practical, economical, etc. They buy them to stand out. People like that don't like their vehicles to be embarassingly slow, they want to show off. Ford expedition buyers are a totally different creature.
Just another example of GM telling the customers what they want instead of giving them what they want.

My Ram weighs 4400 pounds and has about 300 lb ft of torque, and it feels pretty weak. So I can't imagine what 4700 lbs and 225 lb ft must feel like.

Check the 0 to 60 of the h1 , even the new more powerful h1! A lot of guys on this board would be hitting the 1/4 mile by the time it hits 60.

How about the rumor on GMI about the I-5 being standard equipment in the GMT900s. Some people are even advocating the 4 cyl!
The vehicle strategy board needs a wake up call if the I-5 makes it into the GMT900s after this.

The h3 is at a 1 pound per horsepower disadvantage to the h2. While that may sound bad because the h2 is 6400lb curb, the h3 has a 5 speed manual with MUCH better gear ratios. It also has 100% of its torque available at 2800rpm. The truth is if you look at the specs, you see that this is an offroad truck along the lines of a jeep cherokee. For what they wanted to accomplish, this is a great job. They could pop in a upgraded engine for guys that dont care about offroading in the future. I think most people are not looking at this in the right light. This is not a 4700lb car. Its meant for slow moving offroad fun while still giving day to day utility. Its a fine base model to the hummer lineup.

IMHO the Inline 3.5 5 cylinder is a gutless engine. No torque and only HP up top and thats reving the **** out of it. It like driving a oversized, rwd honda civic with a bed.
I hate that engine with a passion, and its what turned me off from trading in my S-10 in on a new Canyon and Colorado along with the hard, plasticky interior, and the funky gauge layout. I may not have all the power in the world in my S-10 but at least it has torque off idle with the 4.3 and it still rides better IMHO to me anyways.
Trucks/SUV's need torque and power all the way thru the powerband, the 3.5 does not deliver this. The H3 is too heavy as well. At least put the turbo back on it like in the concept.
GM DO SOMETHING WITH IT!! Quit sitting on your ****, and give the customers what they want!!! Dont give them what YOU want them to have!!
