Official Solstice info!

Just got this email from Pontiac.

I'm having a hard time linking it or cut/pasting it, but here are the hi-lights.

-2.4 Ecotec producing up to 170 hp
-RWD with Aisin 5 speed
-Bilstein monotube shocks
-18" wheels standard
-Convertible top completely stows in rear clamshell opening
-Estimated starting MSRP around $20,000

Nothing new .....to us, but now it's official. This wasn't a clandestined source, this was a marketing message directly from Pontiac.

Oh, and the interior looks nice.

Yes, the interior is very nice.
I thought that since the pre-production car on last year's circut that everything was set to go?
and I wish that the Solstice packed more punch, like 185hp.

It may not even be 170 hp. The message said UP TO 170 hp.

Re: Official Solstice info!

bah...170 or more.
I have an ad for the Malibu with Colorado and Nox when they were going to be released. Before the American Revolution, it says that the Malibu would be powerd by a 187hp 3.5, and this was a few months before the release of the car. I hope that things will change.
If GM can get 145 out of 2.2, GM can get 170 out of 2.4 and VVT.

Re: Official Solstice info!

Nothing new really, but I'm glad to see 18"s are official for the base model. GM has been lagging latly in offering bigger rim sizes.

Re: Official Solstice info!

is a "cute" car. but it is good for GM. They needed something like it.

Re: Official Solstice info!

Do these large wheels kind of scare anyone else? I'm affraid the Solstice might turn into some kind of cruiser rather than a sporty car. I hope they did 18 inches right and didn't hinder the acceleration or handling too much.

Re: Official Solstice info!

When big wheels like that are designed in at the factory, I am sure GM took the necessary precautions to make sure it rode and handled fine. Solstice as a cruiser? I doubt it...do you see any pimped out Miatas?

I am sure it will have 170hp, as the G6 4 cylinder due next spring and the Cobalt SS both use the same engine, and both make 170hp. It was nice to see the 2.2 was at least re-tuned a bit and now makes 145hp instead of 140...
