Sorry I must have missed those thread(s). I was not looking for an explanation as to why you post here but rather why post to people on a "nuts board with our minds already made up". No answer needed but somehting to think about.

Never said you did. Your contribution is noted. But again the sticking point is the apparent close minded posters here.

That's up to you. In this thread I doubt anyone overstepped the bounds of fact or opinion since as you and I both agree the times at the Ring are very non-official. There is a very good chance the curb weight quote is off too. But here we are in the great debate. I don't think anyone here made a care for or against AWD or the GTR's time other than to say from what's given so far some more info will need to be gathered.

From past experience, I know there are those on this board (as there are some on most enthusiasts boards) who won’t let fact get in the way of their opinion; for those in that group, should the GT-R ultimately beat the Z06’s impressive lap times at the “Ring they will find some way to either ignore it, dismiss it or denigrate in some way. Or, if that fails, they’ll fall back on the old “performance/$$$” argument (as if that should be the only/ultimate measure of a performance vehicle) or will simply point to the upcoming ZR1.

These are often the same people who will deride any automotive journalist or publication as being hopefully biased against GM/the domestic industry but will do a 180 when that very same journalist/publication says something they agree with!

On the other hand, there are people I do come here to talk to and debate with and appreciate a great deal – they are those who appreciate automotive machinery regardless of nameplate…those who’s opinions, even if I completely disagree with them, are based on significant thought and experience and not blind loyalty or ignorance.

Thankfully, there are a lot more people here in the latter group than there are in the former

I don't think the GTR will be compromised and I don't think Nissan would make such a decision very lightly. I'm pretty sure the transmission will be state of the art. I reckon the auto is easily the quicker of the tested transmissions... hence Nissan's decision to stick with the auto only.

SMGs also appeal to the sort of crowd the GT-R is being built for. I'm sure every rag and nissan enthusiast would give nissan hell if the only available transmission was a manual trans.

Personally I feel SMGs to be disengaging from the whole car experience, they have thier place on the track (and I guess in stop and go traffic they are good if you "MUST" have something other than a slush box) or unless your gig is street racing, otherwise its useless tech to me.

I see. You obviously expect the GTR times to be near what has been leaked already and if that's the case there will be some question. Not that it's too amazing to believe but that it's a very impressive time and until we know more about the car not everything seems to line up. I'm content to let the jury out until we have a full writeup and know for sure.

Again all sites have bias as does all posters. I think it's safe to say people on this board are generally pro Camaro/Vette and GM. So if something comes along to beat that in any way there is always the idea of hey those vehicles are underdogs. It's not like the Vette or Camaro are the Yankees with the highest payroll and best players. When the Yankees lose it's because they got outplayed or outmanaged, sorry Joe. But there are no excuses because they are expected to win. So if X car comes along and it costs more and has some higher tech it's expected to win. I think that's a bit of the mentality behind the excuses made if the GTR wins. Back to baseball, I heard a lot of that kind of talk after the Angels got swept by the Red Sox the #4 payroll lost to the #2 payroll. But then there is the Indians and Rockies just to mess it all up.

I for one don't think the Z06 times at the Ring are all that impressive. When you look over the best times there it's dominated by Porsche so they are obviously on to something there and they get it. So will I lose any sleep if the GTR beats the Z06 there. No. Are there tracks the Z06 will beat a GTR. Certainly. That's the debate and keeps us going. Will the GTR cost more than the Z06, I think so. Does that matter on the track. No. Would it be foolish to think that has no bearing on the comparison. Yea probably.

As many of us pro-GM people will tell you there has been a lot of domestic bashing over the last few decades. The foreign invasion of vehicles has done a lot to our society and way of life. But that's the way of the world and let me be the first to say there are plenty of bad articles about GM/Domestic brands that are right on true. W/o foreign comp. the American brands would keep making inferior vehicles. I even get mad when I see what vehicles GM and Ford have produced in Europe or Austrailia while making us drive crap! But there has been changes and the domestic brands and GM especially deserve some credit for turing things around. But public opinion takes longer to change than does sheet metal and quality or resale reports.
Overall I've been on a few boards, pro Ford or pro Imports and I mst say the bias here is weaker than some of the pro-import boards. Talk about stubborn blind ignorance. But I guess they earn that as public opinion and increasing market share tends to support them.

That is probably true I wouldn't be too surprised if the GTR Evolution could pull a 7:38 on the ring, since it will be a bit lighter and significantly more powerful than the standard GTR albeit very expensive too. All in all Anyone shopping for a GTR or Corvette probably isn't going to decide on which car they want based on Ring times anyway and most of the debate will be mostly academic by non owners on message boards

So here is a question I haven't seen posed anywhere: will the GTR seat 4 or will it be a 2 seater? I believe, though I don't know for sure, that the older GTRs were 4 seaters.

They were. From the shots of the new one it looks like it will be a 4 seater as well. The Evolution might drop those though.
