No Traditional Manual Tranny for the GT-R35
3. I have no problem with people questioning "questionable facts" (such as highly un-official lap times) and I do very much enjoy a good debate - I also don't mind people not agreeing with me but that does not mean that I won't call BS on someone when their "facts" or the lack of them, seem to justify it.

The question that prompted my statement about those who’s minds are already made up was prompted by a hypothetical; that being when the GT-R does have an “official” time; there won’t be any more argument. In other words, it didn’t really apply to what has gone on in this thread but what I expect will come.
From past experience, I know there are those on this board (as there are some on most enthusiasts boards) who won’t let fact get in the way of their opinion; for those in that group, should the GT-R ultimately beat the Z06’s impressive lap times at the “Ring they will find some way to either ignore it, dismiss it or denigrate in some way. Or, if that fails, they’ll fall back on the old “performance/$$$” argument (as if that should be the only/ultimate measure of a performance vehicle) or will simply point to the upcoming ZR1.

These are often the same people who will deride any automotive journalist or publication as being hopefully biased against GM/the domestic industry but will do a 180 when that very same journalist/publication says something they agree with!
On the other hand, there are people I do come here to talk to and debate with and appreciate a great deal – they are those who appreciate automotive machinery regardless of nameplate…those who’s opinions, even if I completely disagree with them, are based on significant thought and experience and not blind loyalty or ignorance.
Thankfully, there are a lot more people here in the latter group than there are in the former

I don't think the GTR will be compromised and I don't think Nissan would make such a decision very lightly. I'm pretty sure the transmission will be state of the art. I reckon the auto is easily the quicker of the tested transmissions... hence Nissan's decision to stick with the auto only.
SMGs also appeal to the sort of crowd the GT-R is being built for. I'm sure every rag and nissan enthusiast would give nissan hell if the only available transmission was a manual trans.
Personally I feel SMGs to be disengaging from the whole car experience, they have thier place on the track (and I guess in stop and go traffic they are good if you "MUST" have something other than a slush box) or unless your gig is street racing, otherwise its useless tech to me.

I for one don't think the Z06 times at the Ring are all that impressive. When you look over the best times there it's dominated by Porsche so they are obviously on to something there and they get it. So will I lose any sleep if the GTR beats the Z06 there. No. Are there tracks the Z06 will beat a GTR. Certainly. That's the debate and keeps us going. Will the GTR cost more than the Z06, I think so. Does that matter on the track. No. Would it be foolish to think that has no bearing on the comparison. Yea probably.

Overall I've been on a few boards, pro Ford or pro Imports and I mst say the bias here is weaker than some of the pro-import boards. Talk about stubborn blind ignorance. But I guess they earn that as public opinion and increasing market share tends to support them.

I wouldn't be too surprised if the GTR Evolution could pull a 7:38 on the ring, since it will be a bit lighter and significantly more powerful than the standard GTR albeit very expensive too. All in all Anyone shopping for a GTR or Corvette probably isn't going to decide on which car they want based on Ring times anyway and most of the debate will be mostly academic by non owners on message boards
