No Mustang Cobra until MY2007

From BON

Ford is going to make a killing on the GT for the first two years so this makes sense. Plus, if the Mach 1 comes out in the 2006MY with a 5.4L that would give it 6 months to sell before the 500 HP Cobra shows up. Looks like Ford has thought this out pretty well from the business perspective.

That is good marketing. Keep improving every year.

'05 = 300HP
'06 = 350HP-375HP?
'07 = 500HP

It will also give the Ford GT time to grow to 600HP and so the Cobra won't be stepping on its toes.

Yeah, but the GT is going away. Hopefully to be replaced by the Cobra roadster (it looks like it will happen).

And hopefully if that Cobra roadster is built it'll look a lot different from the one shown on this year's auto show circuit.

Maybe they're saving it for the new Z28. I still wanna see one of them actually have 500HP.

Heh, thats exactly what I was thinking/wishing.. So if GM does bring back the Camaro in 2007, they can "steal the thunder" by also annoucning a high hp Mustang Cobra...

Heh, I think you're reading too much into it. Ford doesn't seem to care too much what GM does with the Camaro, probably to their ire. I think it's all about the Benjamins and maximizing profits from the GT and Mach 1 before the Cobra is released.

If "Camaro" does return by 2007, it won't be stealing the thunder of a HiPo Mustang. The very high performance "Chevy coupe" won't be out till a year later, along with the convertible.

There's going to be at least a year with a GT competing "SS" model, before it goes after the "special" Stangs.
