Nissan Leaf - Not attractive to me at all

Nissan Leaf - Not attractive to me at all
So I only heard the name but never saw one or even knew what one looked like. I just didn't pay attention.
Then I am driving on the highway and I came across one.
WOW...not exactly attractive. Dr. Seuss inspired for sure.
Yikes! Anyone like the looks of it?

For what it is, it isn't hideous. However Nissan usually makes more attractive vehicles, an the Leaf certainly has a face only a mother could love.

Re: Nissan Leaf - Not attractive to me at all
Lately, it seems like Nissan is trying to produce the ugliest cars possible. I kind of like the Maxima and 370z, but then there's the Juke, Qube, Versa, Leaf, etc...
Wow, those are just flat UGLY!
I don't mean to be insulting to any region of the country, and for all I know (which isn't much in this case) these could have all been designed in Japan, but it seems that their designs got UGLY right about the time they moved Nissan NA from LA to Nashville.
I tend to think these are foreign design themes, because I just can't see a southern USA design team looking at those designs and thinking they would sell here in the States.

Agreed.
Maybe they are following the misguided assumption that self-flagellating eco-nuts want to be seen in the clowniest car possible, to emphasize they are driving "under protest" or something.
I am starting to get the feeling that Tesla's Model S will do very well with the CA upper-middle-class set, especially if they can get into leases for about the same price as a BMW 5 or Mercedes E. It's a helluva lot more to show off at the trendy restaurants than the invisible German sedans, and they likely have another car for long-distance trips.

I like the car for what it is, but the styling is about as boring as you can get. They should make a sporty 2 seat sportscar that is electric. The car could be lighter, better aero and could crack the 100 mile range on a single charge.

I think the Volt is the closest thing to a conscientiously artistic and functional design besides what Tesla is doing. I don't know how to describe the Prius or Leaf -- they're just wacky. The styling is dissonant. I'd be interested in an EV/hybrid if they weren't so ugly, and were also better for the environment...

I saw one in that color at a supermarket. Very nice!
I would prefer the red paint though.

Re: Nissan Leaf - Not attractive to me at all
I actually saw a Nissan commercial poking fun at the Volt by showing it fueling up at a gas station. They then cut to the scene with a Leaf owner gracefully unplugging his charging cord and driving off. I asked myself, where is the next scene with the gas guzzling tow truck picking up the Leaf after the driver tries to go 20 miles with the A/C blasting? Of course, the masses won't understand that and think the Volt is just a hybrid.

^ Marketing at it's finest....
Marketing is all about telling half-truths... and people that eat it up.
and I think Nissan is trying to get the prestigious award of "Most ugly cars by one company"

I see lots out here. They blend in with all the other econboxes clogging the freeways.
The Volt on the other hand looks rather elegant. I've seen a few in crystal red. (Looking at Chevy.com I think they need to open up the color palate a bit more.. 6 colors??)
It's a great design even with some of it's form following the function.

After seeing my gazillionth Volt here in the bay area, I've warmed up to them to the the point where I actually like them.
I still don't believe they make a good business case. But at least I'm now sold on the idea that the money GM loses on each one is a value when you look at attention and positive press it buys.
Could be the 1st time I was wrong about a GM decision since I said the H2 was going to fail.
