I had thought that the only big HP version of the 350Z we would see would end up being the new Skyline GTR.

Re: Nissan 450Z V8 muscle car soon!!!
A 450Z would be awesome if they could keep the weight down and the price down. No more than 40 grand well equipped or they're off their rocker, IMO. Why? Because even with 400hp if they try to price it like a Porsche, people'd be crazy to buy it because, well... it's still a Nissan Z which doesn't have nearly as nice of an interior, chassis, trans, etc as most of the Porsches.

care of my import friends........
the Skyline GT-R that will be coming state-side will be badged as an Infinity. the price will be above $40,000 from what i've heard. Nissan is looking into this high HP 350Z to try and offer a car that can give the feel of a Skyline without the huge price tag. if this new V8 350Z gets to us over here, it will probably be somewhere in the low to mid $30,000 range.
think 4th gen Z28 and SS here with a bogger price difference under two brands.
Re: Nissan 450Z V8 muscle car soon!!!
I dont know, from what I am hearing the 450Z will have a $ tag of over 50gs. And remember this will be AWD platform, so who knows what the yearly production will bring for this new breed.
And I should also point out that this is not the replacement of the 350Z. There will be 2 diferent Zs on the road.

I wonder if history is going to repeat itself. Remember in the 90's when all these great japanese sports cars suddenly became really freaking expensive and they priced themselves out of their own market?
300XZ
3000GT
SVX
Stealth* (Sort of Japanese)
NSX (survived with sales approaching 0 a year)

Based on your price list, I think that a base 450Z will start in the mid 30's. If they go with the same trim levels as the 350, a grand touring 450Z might be in the 40's.

Re: Nissan 450Z V8 muscle car soon!!!
The problem is, it will at least be creeping into Corvette territory and that is not good for the competition. Many have tried, all have failed.
Isn't the Corvette going to get the 6.2 soon? The base Vette should have a good bit more power when this Nissan comes out.

Re: Nissan 450Z V8 muscle car soon!!!
No one goes into the vette category for a reason! Nissan will soon find out. The Cobra will have plenty of power but it will be a chunky car. I think like 3800lbs. The Porsches clearly try to make their cars away from the Vette because they keep with their heritage as an excuse for failing. They are very nice car tho. I don't think anyone can compete with the Vette personally, there is just something about it. Hopefully the Camaro gains this quality!
Re: Nissan 450Z V8 muscle car soon!!!
I still don't follow. Even if they sell the GTR as an Infiniti (which was one of the rumors) why offer a variant of the Z car that can compete with it? Is the V6 going away completely? And if so are we saying all Z cars will have a hippo V8 with AWD? That sounds like the GTR to me.
But then again, this is being reported for a UK mag. Do they sell the Infiniti brand in the UK or just Nissan?
All in all I would say that this is really the GTR and they just are throwing around names for the export version.

Re: Nissan 450Z V8 muscle car soon!!!
You gotta think too...trickle down effect. Kids eye the NSX and get the next best thing, a Civic SI or whatever. Same with the Vette/Camaro, Skyline/Z cars, etc.
But this one does seem a bit out of the ordinary, I have to admit.
