Angry Next Impala pushed back to 2013 from 2011

http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f...-2013-a-75795/

Someone here recently said the new Impala would be at the 2010 NAIAS and then go on sale in the first half of 2010 as a 2011. Now it appears GM is pushing it back to 2013.

GM is going to kill another bread and butter vehicle. GM makes fantastic products but has the absolute worst upper management. They do not belong in the car business.

Impala and the Cobalt are GM's two best selling cars and they have pushed back their replacements. Same goes for the G6, All 3 are very dated. Why do they let their best selling products rot. I fully expect the Ford Taurus to out sell the Impala in 2010. There is absolutely no reason to buy a 2009+ Impala when can get such a superior product like the 2010 Taurus. Things just keep getting gloomier and gloomier for GM

I expect that Taurus sales disappoint Ford because the large car market is virtually dead in this country, thanks mostly to crossovers and larger mid size cars like the new Accord. Frankly, I don't think Chevrolet needs a sedan larger than the Malibu.

The Impala will continue to sell to fleets, which is where most of them go now.

GM should do to the Impala, what Ford has done to the CV. Just produce it for fleet use only. This way, retail customers don't get screwed on resale.

When I first read this I was like WTF. Mostly because the Impala doesn't feel like a big car to me for some reason. I feel the line between the Malibu and the Impy is pretty blurry.

Is the Impala classified as a "large" car?

Tell that to the Malibu owners when the "Classic" was being produced.

Plus it kills the Impala brand.

It is 10" longer than a Malibu

Aveo Sedan 166"
Cobalt 180"
Malibu 190"
Impala 200"
Buick Lucerne 203"
Cadillac DTS 207"

Sales are why the Impy was pushed back check out the Jan 09 numbers:

Small - 112,073
Midsize - 143,726
Luxury - 54,934
Large - 5,130

Almost no market for a new Impala. Is the new Taurus considered large? If so I feel bad for it.

Depends who you ask. Impala and Taurus are right on the edge. A Crown Victoria is 212" to the Impalas 200"

Impala sold 7,060 units in Jan. 2009, so it must be considered a mid-size under the source you got your data from.

Malibu sold 9,312, Fusion 8,152, Taurus 1,705.

The best selling vehicle from Ford (excluding the F-150) is currently the Escape with 8,360 in Jan. 2009

The Impala has incredible gas mileage for the size of the car. I have one and it barely fits in my garage, its actually wider and longer than my Tblaze.

I know sells are down but that impala has been out forever. Its not a great looking car as it was when it came out (campared to its previous model).

Maybe they need to boost it up a little. Flex fuel is nice, but those 1996 impala SS's were quite handsome, compared to the new Impala SS.

It was dated when it was new. These FWD Impalas have always been underwhelming, the word has got out. I'm amazed they sell any, especially when you have such a nice Malibu sitting next to it on the lot. I don't care how much bigger it,you'd have to be on crack to want a Impala over a Malibu. The new Taurus will hammer that final nail.

exactly. too bad cause its a nice size and like King Moose SS said they do get good mileage. add a 6sd auto to it and it would be even better.

Definatly, the 3 seats in the front, is extremly outdated.

Some of the parts though GM should defenatly roll over, like the sound system is very well done on the Impala's. Its better than my bose in the Tblaze.

The LS4 needs to be rolled into another car, that engine is incredible. It's still ahead of its time
