BTW, check out my edited first post. All the facts on the 2005 SSR are on there now.

Once the SSR and GTO get the LS2 they will get the respect they deserve.

Another source explained that the 6.0 wasn't used from the start because of cooling & related packaging restrictions. With the 6.0 scheduled for the Trailblazer SS, those related parts will be incorperated into the Trailblazer based SSR.
Didn't check out your article, but I will now.

Major changes for the 2005 Chevrolet SSR include:
1. LS2 all aluminum V8
2. optional 6-speed manual starting in Nov.
3. 4L65E automatic is standard
4. 9 1/2in rear with Eaton limited slip (manual)
5. New engine cover
6. windbreak available
7. Hood struts standard
8. Color Aqua Blur (changes from teal to purple in the light)replaces purple
9. MP3 capability added to radios
10. Auxiliary gauge package added by shifter as an option
Manufactures's estimate for performance:
0-60 (M6) = 5.3sec
0-60 (A4) = 5.6sec
1/4 mile time under 14sec
HP and TQ figures have not been released as of yet. When asked of the real figures, the SSR marketing manager said that they won't be too far off of the Vette's. The believed 385hp may be a little light by the time official numbers come out, or so we were led to believe.
Personally, we just recieved our first 2004 SSR a few days ago, and I must say that this car is a peach to drive. I never got on it at all, but you could tell in normal acceleration that it had good enough power with the 300hp 5.3L. I can't wait to see how an LS2 with a six speed will do!
BTW, if anyone is interested in a new 2004 SSR in Slingshot Yellow, email me for the best number you'll likely find!

Hoodstruts: Very needed. That hood isn't light weight.
5.3 second 0-60 mph: Performance as moved onward since the last F-bodies. This thing is roughly as quick as loaded LS1 Z28s were. Unfortunately, so are Chrysler 300Cs.
My only gripe about the current one (besides the price) is that the interior plastic was cheap and based on what I saw, broke easy. Hope they do something about that as well.
Sounds like the 2005 SSR is going to be a great ride!

I didn't know they were making an iron Gen IV. I was under the impression GM was going alumunum across the board on V8s save the 8.1 truck motor.
No one specifically told me 'no iron block motors', so I'm not going to doubt ya.

It sure would. I think it would be great to tune an engine to better fit the personalities of different cars.
More displacements are coming too.

I am not trying to be arrogant, incase it comes accross that way. Just alot of times as Guy will attest to, you are told stuff that you can't share. Sometimes you know years before something is official what is really gonna happen.
Also to clarify things, this is the second version of the LS2 that has alluded to. To be honest in simplest terms the LS2 is nothing more than an aluminum evolution of the LQ9 iron engine in the Silverado SS with Gen IV upgrades. This means that while the iron 6.0L will continue in the various truck apps, all performance versions will have the aluminum 6.0L and referred to as LS2 (a nice marketing ploy). It will likely be rated in the neigborhood of 380-390 HP with more tuning towards TQ nd be used in both car and truck appliactions. This shadows GM's treatment of the LS1 when they had the 350 HP Vette LS1, and the "slightly detuned" F-body LS1....only now they are sharing 6.0L with truck apps and further spreading development costs. The LS2 will next year be the top engine in the C6, so IMO I would not expect the SSR or any other LS2 powered vehicle to carry a 400 HP "rating". Expect to see this new engine in the Trailblazer SS (the SSR is a Trailblazer, so this obvious), Silverado SS Shortbox, and........(sit down).....possibly the high performance GTO.
You heard it here
