new r&t comments

well, to my surprise, i got the new jan. issue of road and track in my mailbox today
thought cool, but why? well it appears thatcrutchfield got me a years subscription FREE for buying something from them (and it was more than 2 years ago at that )

well, anyways, i have to say the ads from gm are really good
the gto on the back cover is absolutely awesome (400 hp, then it tells about it's 0-60 and etc.)
and it was the hood scooped and recessed grille sport appearance package gto at that

lastly, i wanted to say it has great pics of the new: lancer evo, toyota supercar, toyota mr2, viper, stang vert, z06 spy pic (like we need that anymore ), and a couple others
not all looked good though (especially that lancer )

just wanted to let you guys know if you wanted to pick it up

also, anybody else get a free subscription from crutchfield?

Wasn't that the issue where the 300C got the car of the year, against others cars like the lotus Elise and C6 Vette, that was a really stupid article cause they were like comparing family sedans with like sports cars...

One cool thing I noticed is that the corvette has a lower quarter mile time but has a higher trap speed than the porshe, which means it should take the Porshe out from a roll (right?).

The pic looked like a regular C6 convertible with Z06 wheels. I didn't know they were making a Z06 drop-top...wouldn't that lessen the chassis strength?

And that new Lancer EVO X is ugly as hell

I just got this month's R&T yestreday, then I got this month's today. I've got alot of bathroom reading to do

i think the z06 pic is a targa, but it looks like it might just have the factory 10 spoke wheels they offer

and i'm certainly glad someone agrees with me on that new evo
that makes the current one look like it came from heaven

Are you serious??? Of course it will take it from a roll. The Porsche benefits from weight transfer on launch more due to the rear engine. As a matter of fact, I think that fact was mentioned in a few of the 87,000 mags in the last 2 months to do the exact same comparo.

Car of the Year is definitely a Motor Trend thing...not Road and Track.

Secondly, if you had taken the time to read the editorial in the front of it you'd have read about HOW they compare cars for Car of the Year. To me, it should be obvious to anyone that they are not comparing an Elise with a Kia Spectra because, well, common sense dictates you wouldn't do that, right? They compare each car to its respective SEGMENT, not the other CARS. Therefore, they assume the 300c is the most qualified for Car of the Year based on its segment...which I tend to agree with, despite my love of the C6.

I guess I just assumed it was painfully obvious how Car of the Year works by now
