Great to see the HFV6 finally make it into a mainstream GM model.

But why keep the other V6s? Four different engines (and five different output levels) for a car that barely cracks 100,000 sales per year doesn't make much sense.

4 engines! Wow-3 of them V6's. And some people think we can't have an mid-level V8 Camaro

Nice to see the G6 GT get the 3900. The 3500 GT is a joke---its slower then the las Grand Am GT.

GM needs to get the Epsilons on a diet. Now I wonder if the Malibu is getting some engine changes too.

The changes for the '07 G6 look pretty good. I wonder if the price of the 3.6 GTP cars will be more than the 3.9 GTP? My father is actually thinking about getting a new G6 GTP so it would be nice to get that 3.6 as long as the price doesn't substantially increase.

I like those changes. It is great to see the G6 not get neglected.

DOHC 3.6L + 6 speed auto combo is awesome.

This has the same magical effect that the Grand Prix's engine shakeup had on that model. The 3.9L is very ho-hum as top of the line engine, but as a mid-level it's quite possibly class leading.

I hope Pontiac advertises the awesome value of their engine offerings. Both the Grand Prix and G6 have near class leading power in their mid-range offerings. That's something to be touted.

• New optional 17" Black Chrome Tech wheels.

Cool! Way to go Pontiac. Trendy, but hey... with the times.

I agree. The 3.9 is nice....but certainly not up to the task of top motor in the G6. The 3.6 is completely world class...giving G6 a chance to finally compete at the same level with Mazda and Nissan.
This is really big news for Pontiac!

But apparently, the 3.6 will only be mated to 6 speed auto. It seems GM is always >this< close.....

Wow. I suppose they always have to do one boneheaded thing to tarnish some good news like this.

Re: New powertrain line-up for '07 G6.

From what I'm reading, the 3.6L engine is the most favoured if GM are to be taken 'seriously' by potential customers. So why keep offering the OHV V6s in a segment that is extremely competitive, if buyers prefer the DOHC engines? No good trying to preach to people that OHVs are at least as good as DOHCs if people won't listen, IMHO.

Btw, I am a HUGE fan of the OHV motor, but if people prefer to spend their hard earned on 'technology' why not offer the single engine/trans combo in various stages of tune?

...and yet you can still only get a manual with the top of the line motor.

Because GM still thinks they own 45% of the market and they can tell the customer what's good for them.

On the other hand, how many G6s would Pontiac sell with the 3.6l V6 and the manual? Magazines and enthusiasts like the top engine with a manual, but I think they're likely money losers.

Maybe as many - or more, than Mazda sells 6's with the 3.5 manual and Nissan sells Altimas with the VQ 3.5 manual.

Really? I think import buyers are more likely to buy manuals. Even then, I wonder how many Altima and Mazda-6 manuals are sold.

We do know that Toyota sells zero Camry V6 manuals. They did offer one for a year or so back in the late 1990s.
