The New GTO Will Have a Shift Light? Look!
Has anyone been to Pontiac's website recently? Go to the GTO page under upcoming vehichles and on the pop up window click on "Hear it coming" and you'll get a close up of the instrument display. Right when it revs to 6200 rpm's a shift light goes off next to the 7 in the tachometer!!! I hope that idea carries over to the real thing!

My friend's '97 Sunfire has one, although the GTO's sounds like it's positioned better. The Sunfire's is kind of off to the side. I think it's a very good idea. Makes you wonder why more cars don't come with one.

my '88 grand am had a shift light.if you need a light to tell you when to shift, maybe you don't need a manual tranny.how about a light that senses on/off ramps and tells you to punch it.how about a light that reminds to use the clutch when shifting or a light that reminds you the brake pedal is the one in the middle.

Drag racers have been using shift lights for years. They do serve a good purpose. Taking your eyes off the street/strip in front of you to look down at your tach is a pretty big distraction.

Amen Derek! I find any kind of shift light more of a distraction. As a matter of fact, I obtained my best time at the track "using the force" rather than looking at the tach. That time below is my very first run at the track ever and I could not beat it the rest of the day (about 15 runs). I was too concerned about when I was shifting and forgot to just listen to the car. Big mistake! Anyone who needs a shift light in a performance car, should have it immediately stripped from them and given a Yugo. Just my $.02.
So all you shift-light leghumpers better pray I don't get elected president...

The shift light if for consistency. Can you actually tell the difference (sound wise) between a few hundred rpms when you are racing? If so, than hats off to you...
Another point...our tachs are quite slow in case you haven't noticed. I will stick with my consistent 6k shifts with the help of my shiftlight.
