I assume it's the 3.6.
And yeah, they're a little bigger than the current one.
Here's some specs to compare:
New Global Colorado / New Silverado
Height = 70" / 74"
Length = 210.5" / 239.6"
Width = 74.1" / 80"
WB = 121.9" / 143.5"
Tr = 61.8" / 63.3"
These were both crew cabs. Silverado with the 6' bed.
The U.S. spec Colly will be a bit longer than the global version due to the real bed.
And just for giggles, here's a current U.S. spec Colly:
Height = 67.9"
Length = 207.1"
Width = 68.6
WB = 126"
Tr = 59.8
So the new one will be bigger than the current one.
And yeah, they're a little bigger than the current one.

I also think that engine is the 3.6L DOHC V6.

"That's a huge bitch!"
I LOVE the new Silverados. If they pulled off a 99-02 silvy/98-04 s10 twin package... I'm going to love this one as well.
She looks WAY different than the global truck.

My Z71 is 14 years olds. She's been faithful as hell the past 9 years I've owned it, but I'm really lovin' the new trucks. I liked the GMT 900 GMCs, was OK with the chevy's with certain packages, but wasn't excited about them. I WANT a new one... Maybe the little Colorado will be a nice compromise between price and capability and still have the Silverado look.
I've read that Toyota is only doing somewhat of a refresh on the Tundra... that sure as hell won't cut it with what I've read/seen with these new trucks.

Here's another photo I don't think was in the Motor Trend article.
It shows an extended cab version.
I think the one on top is a GMC and the one on the bottom is a Chevy. You can make out subtle differences in the wheel openings.

There have been rumors but GM has also stated that they have no plans for other SUVs. Anything could change though.
If they did bring it back it would be based on the one from overseas:
