Chevy's top priority is a RWD coupe?

Doesn't that kind of go against what guionM and others have said?

To a degree, yes... that's why I thought it to be noteworthy... but I don't know who said it either... plus I suppose that could be Monte Carlo or even Chevelle even though Camaro was specifically asked...

Ken is very reliable though. I do not question the fact that it was actually said.

Yes, the question was specifically about Camaro...I hope whoever said this does not honestly believe that a RWD Monte is an equal/adequate replacement for Camaro.

the way I personally read into it.

WHEN WILL WE SEE A NEW C-6? WILL IT HAVE MORE POWER AND HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

ANSWER: Our plan is to bring a new C-6 to market in the 2005 model year – with more power at a price that will allow Corvette to continue to be the best performance value sports car.
C6 would probably be around the same power levels, around the same price... They don't want to price the Corvette out of its curret niche.

WILL CHEVROLET OFFER A REAR DRIVE SPORT SEDAN (CHEVY SS)?

ANSWER: This is not a top priority for Chevrolet. We are focused on providing our dealers with high volume core entries such as Cavalier, Malibu and Impala. We also feel we can address the performance market through our Super Sport sub-brand. So, our plans focus on Impala SS as Chevrolet’s answer to the performance sedan market. We view the sedan market as a high volume FWD market. However long term, we are pursuing a RWD coupe.
they mean they are sticking with what they are coming out with now, the FWD SC'd Monte Carlo SS, only cause their RWD replacements aren't ready yet.

WHAT ARE THE PLANS FOR A NEW CAMARO, SS CAMARO?

ANSWER: Chevrolet’s top product priority is for a RWD coupe. We are working with top GM management to develop the best entry for the market.

Meaning there's plenty of people and the buzz inside to create a RWD coupe, but the suits high up still haven't given the green light to start funding the project. They probably want to see how the RWD sedans sell..

I hope the new ad campaign is good.

That's promising news..I love how they try to be all vague about it, but we all know it's gonna be a Camaro(their RWD coupe) and it's gonna kick @$$!

For pete's sake....it better kick ***. I'm sure GM has more sense than to say a RWD Monte is it because that isnt the car for the job plus the recent ones are fugly.

Sort of confirms what I've been saying about Chevys "RWD sporty coupe" I've been mentioning over the past couple of months.

Just the same, I don't think anything posted there (and I'm assuming he's accurate, because there were no specifics there) contradicts anything I've posted, or mentioned top other's privately.

Remember the posts I made about the Mustang having an impact, and being the best thing that could happen to the 5th gen?

I've posted that the Chevrolet & Pontiac sedans had a higher priority, and that I figured Camaro would come out behind that. These RWD sedans will debut in 2006 as 2007 cars. It's possible they will come out in the way the Espilon chassis has come out, one division per year (ie: Malibu this year & Grand Am next, or Ion this year, and Cavalier next).

But while the sedans are comming out in 2006 for the 2007 model year, the new GTO is comming out in 2005 as a 2006 model! The shocking thing about this, is that all this comes from GM, not some secret mole!!

Remember that GM press release about having a plant on line to build RWD transmissions in 2005 and high performance transmissions in 2006?

Mustang shook the trees quite a bit, and things seem to be moving pretty quickly. Going back to GTO, anyone remember when I said the next GTO wasn't going to be an only child. That was verbatim what I was told, and I assumed Monte Carlo was going to be GTO's counterpart. But maybe, just maybe I was wrong on that.

The plot thickens.

I would be willing to bet money that the GTO's Chevrolet counterpart will be the Chevelle. It always was in the past, why not now?

My other guess is that the upcoming RWD chasis that the Impala is supposed to be on will be shared with the Monte Carlo and probably several other cars spread out among GM's other divisions.

One car that would be nice for GM to offer again that I haven't heard mentioned in this forum would be the Riviera. That could probably share the new GTO chasis that is going to be built in the US too.

My vote goes to the Chevelle too.

The thing that gets me though, is that by 07 if all these cars are made, there will be 4 GM musclecars, 2 each from Chevrolet and Pontiac. (I think they will bring back the Firebird) Is there really sense in that these days?? I mean the difference between all of those cars probably won't be really that much like back in the day, especially in these times when all the same drivetrains are used. The lineup does sound good though, Camaro, Chevelle, Corvette, Firebird, and GTO.

I think that does mean Camaro, not Chevelle, Monte Carlo or Impala.

Don't forget, they are prohibited from using the "C-word" at this point in time. They are not prohibited from saying Chevelle, Monte Carlo or Impala.

So when specifically asked about "Camaro", the answer is vague and "RWD coupe" is used.

Ok, so maybe I'm a little bit of an optimist... it can't hurt to hope they understand what we actually want. Can it?
