New Camaro Concepts (2 styles in 1)

Hey everybody,

Here's my ideas for the Camaro with the two front clips ('retro' and 'fast'). These are my contest entries for the GMI site. My idea for the next generation Camaro utilizes four seperate car styles, all built on the same platform (which platform, I don't know). The reason for this is diversity. I'm thinking about the business end of Camaro, therefore, I have made my Camaro concept to appeal to as wide a market as possible.
Included in this quartet are: the 'plain' Camaro, the 'spicy' Camaro (yes, two Camaros), the wagon (Nomad) and the sport-ute 'wagon' (Camino). All four styles utilize a majority of the same structural components, powerplants and hardware.
The two Camaro styles are virtually identical except for some changed body panels (front fascia, hood, pillars and rear glass). The two body styles are coupe and fastback. Having two styles to choose from increases the potential customer base (especially when put against the new, ONLY fastback Mustang). Take a look and compare the body panels!
The coupe is inspired by the first-gen (with obvious heritage displayed of that era), yet manages to retain Chevy's contemporary design cues (such as stacked headlights...). For those who want a proper trunk, this is your Camaro! Available with V-6, V-8 and the Z-28 option.
The fastback is second gen inspired, but in my opinion, is the more modern looking of the two. It takes some cues from the SS concept (and was a direct styling evolution of my previous concept, which was on the forum earlier). This car is for those who want a little more speed in their Camaro's styling. This models differs not only in body panels, but taillights as well- the round lights are on this model, to further differentiate it from the coupe. Available with V-6, V-8 and the SS option.
Both of these styles are available in convertible as well, utilizing the coupe's trunk for both models. Customers are encouraged to customize their cars (eg: the grill spear on the fastback is removable, for an aggressive look).
The next variant on this platform is the Nomad wagon. It uses much of the same structural elements as the Camaro, only differing in the body panels, rear body structure and interior elements. It retains much of the flavour of the original Nomad concept, including the swing-back rear doors and the unique sunroof system. To further this model from the Camaros, the windshield has been moved forward (although the structural elements remain virtually the same).
The next model, a variant on the Nomad, is the Camino. The 'El' has been dropped for this version, but the spirit remains the same- a hauler that hauls! Two doors have been added (the same as Nomad's), as well as the new, unique 'Kammback' system (a variant of Avalanche's Convert-a-cab). The bonus of this system is that it completely seals the front cab.
Enough of my rambling, there is plenty to see and more to read on the site.

Enjoy!!!

I admit to not reading the entire business case/sales pitch behind it, but I don't know that I see much that is aggressive enough in your drawings. Nice work, but nothing screams "Camaro" to me. This one is probably the closest...

A lot of the Camaro drawings seemed to me reminicent of a hardtop Miata.

i've got your 5th gen

Has anyone seen the new GE commercial about their Lexan product? The concept car they show just screams f-body. Check out their website at ge.com, they have a few pictures of this car. It has the same basic profile as the 67-68 cars but it is a completely futuristic design, which is the only way the new fbody can be done. Forget the Ford wanna-be retro movement. The only way to move forward is to move forward not imitate the past.

Don't like them. They don't look like a Camaro.

I like them a lot. It wierd, it seems like you are better at the front-angle view than just a side view. But for me, the front-angle view is MUCH harder! lol They look great, though. I like them all.

You have quite a bit of talent though I don't see anything that would appeal to me as a Camaro. With the exception of the fastback, those cars seem alot closer to a possible line of Chevelles.

Nice work, but the Camaro concepts just don't do anything for me.

Those are the best Camaro concepts that I've seen by far posted here. Most of the ones here look like they took a [insert gen here] and used photoshop or somethign to stretch out the corners to make it look like a brick on wheels. The fastback pics in particular look really great. I do have one caveat though. These look like "rough draft" pics. No color or nothing to them. Can you add some color and bring them to life so we can get a more concrete idea for what they will look like. Also, this pic of a fastback looks like it has a fin or spoiler, not sure which.

However, the other fastback pics don't show it, such as the pic from the side. Can you add that fin to the other fastback pics as well? Thanks!

This was brought up over at Corvette Forum as well... everyone thought they were a bunch of C6's :chuckle:

Those are just some generic no-car made up for a TV commercial...

Hey everybody, thank you for all your input!

Seems like there's a pretty good black and white split on these concepts, some like them, some don't. That's good, I value your opinions. I think one of the reasons they are not as well received as other concepts is that I draw my concepts in production form.
I see too many concepts out there there that look awesome and are really flashy with 20+++" wheels and all that, but frankly would more resemble a hog's a$$ when finally translated to the production style. Not putting them down, they are great work, but they are ALL STYLE, NO SUBSTANCE.
Actually, style was not my main focus with these concepts. I can change the style any time I want and come up with a hundred different looks for the same car. What I wanted to introduce here was a plausible business approach for the Camaro. I tried to focus on SUBSTANCE. As far as I'm concerned, Camaro would be a dead duck if resurrected in the form that it was. Adding diversity and practicality to the platform would certainly increase the customer base, IMO. And adding diversity of style in the same car would do the same I think.
Hey, I'm just trying to think outside the box!
If anyone would like to comment on the substance part of my concept, I would really appreciate it! Would this idea work? Would it not? If yes or no, why?
As for the comment on why they look 'rough', I would have loved to colour and finish them, but I sacrificed quantity for quality. These were for the GMI Camaro contest, and I wanted to show as many angles as I could so people could get more sense of the cars. I will probably colour some and make the higher models (Z, SS).
Stay Tuned.
