New Bugatti Veyron Road Test: $25,000 tires, 1010 horsepower, 0-60 in 2.5 sec
I don't know, man, even at the million dollar price tag that the Veyron carries, 70,000 dollars for tires is still a pretty big price. I don't know too many cars that have a tire replacement cost of 7% of the vehicle's purchase price.
.
Hmmm, last time I read up on the Veyron, it was 12 minutes.
Not bad? Not bad for 4500 lbs? 10.1 @ 142 is ****ing crazy fast for any production car. 2008 NHRA rules require the following safety gear for cars going that fast at the drag strip:
1. Full-face helmet (M2000/SA2000 or newer)
2. Driveshaft safety loop (since the Veyron is AWD, I think it needs two of these)
3. 6-point roll cage (not just a bar) w/ padding near driver's head
4. Metal screw-in valve stems
5. Certified protective clothing
6. Certified 5 point harness
7. SFI-approved flywheel/clutch/flexplate, w/ SFI-approved shield
8. Axles must have positive retention (e.g. c-clip eliminators)
9. Transmission shield or blanket
10. SFI-spec harmonic balancer
11. Window net
12. NHRA competition driver's license (this requires a physical, 2 NHRA licensed drivers to witness/sign your forms, and at least 6 runs)
14. Battery cutoff
15. At NHRA national and divisional races, an engine diaper
8 more miles per hour and they'd kick you out for not having a parachute!
Still think it's just "not bad"?
