Yeah that guy is quite the character. I've always said nothing is ever "so-so" with him... it's always the worst or the best. I'd say this video didn't really prove otherwise. "Goes from the worst to the best just by pushing this button"...

I think most of his complaints were valid about BMW's being too complicated these days. But damn, that is a sweet car.

Without the limiter, the car could hit 204 MPH? When the new Z06 only hits 198?

Yea I didn't think they were correct on that.

BMW quotes the top speed as 205mph without speed limiter in their tech spec PDF on the new M5.

I guess they could be lying but BMW doesn't have a history of overstating its performance numbers - usually the opposite, really.

Top speed isn't affected much at all by weight... it's almost all a function of power band, gearing, and aerodynamics.

The M5 always produces as much power at peak as the Z06 does, so assuming it might have a bit better gear and better aerodynamics then it's not at all hard to believe.

Granted it does seem unlikely that the aerodynamics are better. The drag coefficient is very possibly better, but the frontal area is probably also large enough to make up for that fact.

There's also the possibility that whoever came up with 198 on the Z06 wasn't stating the car's full potential...

Don't let the size/weight fool you. I wouldn't doubt that it's capable of that.

The 5200lb Bentley Continental GT & Flying spur will both do 195mph. Some of these big Euro sport-sedans and coupes move quite well.
