Nasty Rumor

Talkin to a friend of mine from Oklahoma and he was saying that he has been hearing that after the pre-orders have been filled, that only V6 cars will be produced. I sure hope there is no truth behind this. It would make totally no sense to me if this actually was a fact.

Haven't heard this one yet. This rumor must have been started by a Mustang fan.

Absolutely false, and it doesn't even make any sense.

I doubt it, although since most the pre-orders are SS they might want to get more of the less expensive Camaros out there.

Possibly due to CAFE standards?

They may want to start balancing things out by producing a large majority of V6 cars, but what I got from that was that V8s were never going to be produced again, which would be bunk.

Oh, hahahaha .. no that I reread it I see that he is saying that the SS Camaro is going away all together after the pre-orders are filled.

There is a 0% chance of that. I thought he meant only V6 would be produced for a while.

Not only is the V8 Camaro not going any where, but there is a chance that they will release the new Z28 with the LSA supercharged V8 in the next 12 months as long as gas prices stay low and the problems at GM are sorted out.

Sounds like this "rumor" was started by the Mustang guys. I vote for this thread to be deleted.

You want the evidence that the rumor is false to go away?

Even if gas prices stay around $2 and GM gets through bankruptcy leaner and meaner, I'm not holding my breath for a GM-produced Z28. There's this little thing called increasing CAFE standards which might put a damper on a 550 HP, 4000 pound coupe, not to mention the fact that the newly humbled GM might find better resources to use the money on. I could always be wrong though.

I hope your not implying that I am a "Mustang guy". If so I assure you I am not. My friend and myself have driven nothing buy GM and will never stray.

They wouldn't make enough of them to affect CAFE, and they already spent most of the money anyway.

I'd probably agree with that, but then again you have to ask yourself...why, then, has the car been shelved?

No, I'm saying the source of the rumor is probably a Mustang guy that is mad the V6 Camaro is putting out as much HP as his Mustang GT.

Camaro SS is a cash cow for GM, it isn't going anywhere as long as the 5th gen Camaro is being made.

They don't have enough cash or credit to pay for all of the expenses that occur between when they start preparing for production and when they start getting money from customers.
