I consider myself a nascar fan and love to go to races, but seeing that thing driving around the track is gonna be like blah... If anyone saw the Hot Rod article a few months ago with their suggestions in changing a few motor sports, like funny cars with more actual looks of the cars and stuff like that. They had an artists rendition of what a CTS would look like in nascar trim and it looked sweet. They suggested going back to actual production cars.... which would be nice since I see a monte carlo driving around the track but its not a rwd car you can buy off the lot...
If I can find a link I will post it, but they basically suggested like what they do with road racing, body panels can be replaced but HAVE to look like the actual car, and the cars have to have production blocks etc... Nascar isnt gonna lose its fan base anytime soon, but I think If they would just start moving even just slowly towards more production based cars, it could be an even bigger sport.

I personally like NASCAR, although I can understand why alot of people are turned off by not so stock cars doing mostly circle tracks. Its a personal thing, I suppose you do end up rooting more for a driver than a particular brand. I'm more of a touring car fan myself though.

The best shape of Nascar cars, IMO, were the late 80's/early 90's, as portrayed in the Days of Thunder. Loved those cars.
Canada's Wonderland had those cars (or their copy models) around one of its attractions, awesome looking for their shape, proportions and overall appeal.
Current ones?

Cars? Has zip to do with how the "stock" car actually looks outside of headlight stickers. NASCAR approved shapes.
Engines? Has zip to do with manufacturers.
Chassis? You're kidding, right?
The track? It's a circle. If one car stands out from the pack, and gets ahead in the race, it get's it's spoiler trimmed, or a more narrow restrictor plate to bring it back with the pack.
To me NASCAR is like watching professional football played between professional coaches with players on the field who never played football. As soon as someone good stands out on the field, he's pulled and replaced with a less talented player just to keep the games close, while the fans root for the coaches instead of the players or the city they represent.
There are plenty of people who like NASCAR & who root for the drivers, which is understandable. But calling it stock car racing should qualify as deceptive advertizing & anyone believing those cars have anything to do with actual "stock" cars should be committed.
