My humble attempt at Buick performance...

Hey folks,

Not sure how many here read PHR, but I thought I'd put the word out that as part of a project I was working on with them, I was asked to try my hand at doing a GNX or Grand National concept. Johnny Hunkins wrote a pretty good but about the car as well.

I was told to base it on the Holden Torana and mix in cues from both the GNX and the Torana. While I am sure plenty of you out there won't dig it, I just wanted to get some opinions from you all. The timeframe to design this thing from the ground up was very short and I only had 2 small pictures of the Torana to go off of, so a lot of it was guesswork too. I'm not 100% happy with how the front end came out, but I was up against a pretty tough deadline on this one. I do, however like the rear of the car a lot and think it captures both modern and classic (well, 80's) Buick styling.

So, there's my input, have at it!

I like everything but those side flares, or whatever they are called, on the fenders. I thought I read an article about this concept where they were hinting at stuffing a 400+ HP twin-turbo v-6 in the GNX concept. Is there any truth to that?

Re: My humble attempt at Buick performance...

schweet! i love the rear quartier view, and it actually looks buick unlike all of those GTO chops on the web!

however i'm also unsure about the nose (notched front spoiler, frowny eyes) but i'm okay with the fender bulges, i don't think they're the problem.

keep it up dude!

Re: My humble attempt at Buick performance...

Glad you guys mostly like it so far. The front end was a tough one for me though, like I said. The notched spoiler was kind of a hint at the chin spoiler on the GN's but the headlights...I just don't like them. I pleaded for them to only run a read view, but Johnny loved it, so he ran it anyway. Oh well...

Nice render Kris. I wish Johnny's words had more imagination though.

I like it a lot. It actually reminds me a little of the Maserati Quattroporte, which isn't a bad thing at all, but definitely identifiable as a Buick.

Re: My humble attempt at Buick performance...

So if this were to be considered, would it have to come in at about $40k? Above the future rwd performance coupe, but below the CTSv? This seems like a bridge between the two.

Nice work BTW Kris.

Haha, nah. They'd rather keep me off their payroll and draw "inspiration" from my work without giving me credit. You just wait. Trust me. I enjoy my job right now anyway and I dare say I have more creative freedom than I would at GM.

For the record though, I met some of the designers and other folks at GM when I interviewed there and they're all really great people.

Kris
