Thumbs up Motors. Big Ones. From GM.

From the Autoextremist (one of WERM's highly recommended websites):

GM. John McElroy, influential host of "Autoline Detroit" (http://www.autolinedetroit.tv/) a weekly television program seen on our local PBS affiliate and also on the Speed Channel, reported on his "Automotive Insight" program on WWJ radio this morning that GM has a new, top-secret facility under construction in Wixom, a far western suburb of Detroit. What will happen in this facility? John is reporting that GM will use the facility to create handbuilt engines for GM's future performance cars, much in the same way that AMG does for Mercedes-Benz - with one technician building an entire engine by hand. Candidates for this program? Most likely the 625hp V-8 engine for the upcoming ultra-high-performance version of the next generation C6 Corvette, code-named "Blue Devil." Also, future engines for Cadillac's aggressive new V series program, which will include V-8s and reportedly even V-12s. If this sounds like a GM we're not quite familiar with as enthusiasts, stay tuned - we're predicting more moves like this in the future from the Sleeping Giant - who is now wide awake and running on a couple of pots of high-octane 100% Colombian.

I don't think anyone (with any sense) said any such thing. Speaking only for me, I will read with interest, and judge when/if it gets here.

I've always admired MB's AMG division's approach to their cars, and specifically their engines. This is just more evidence to the uber-Vette rumors...

Hmmmm....

What could it be that the mighty PacerX smells in the wind?

Why...

Could it be....

THE FOUL STENCH OF CROW BEING PREPARED FOR CONSUMPTION?

Do we all remember this classic?

"I believe our strident loud mouth insider is a seat engineer at a supplier to the general, judging from an earlier thread on the intracacies of welding and frames. Yup. From that commanding position he KNOWS all the developments at GM powertrain before even Fritz Indra."

That would be BEFORE Fritz... and apparently before John McElroy also...

P.S. - That would be FORMERLY "just a seat engineer". The current position is far more... well... lucrative... if you catch my drift.

And who can forget:

"To the rest...

Wellll.... you'll find out in due time."

And the classic reply:

"Or not."

Must be difficult to walk on one foot. Especially when the other one is buried tonsil-deep.

Good news!

I'm sure we'll read about this in Motor Trend some time in the spring.

Until a 625 hp Z-06 is released, it's nothing but rumor. Let's not start this up again. If so I would be happy to e-mail Bob and Snorman with the link.

I'm sure you 3 or 4 F*rd guys know more about what GM is gonna be doing than GM themselves, those of us that follow them, PacerX, RP, Silver, Guion, and a few others that also know what's going on. These are people that are actually in the industry or close to the people who are. Are they wrong ever? Sure. No1 can be right all the time, but it's rare that they're not and is usually the result of a sudden change of plans. I'd say about 90% or more of what they say about upcoming stuff is usually correct. You guys now get a few fast cars and are in complete denial of any1 else doing anything cool. GM has the technology and support to win any competition it wants to when it wants to, again and again. It's not like it hasn't happened before, they have almost always been the side that waits and comes out with something better.

Keep underestimating and provoking GM though, put them in attack mode for us. Basing your opinion on recent times and the last few years is not smart because it's different in there now. BTW, unfortunately for every1 else, it seems like they are already in that attack mode regardless. Only good can come out of it for us, the enthusiasts. I can see how people might doubt GM, we all have, but things are gonna change. They have no choice anymore, especially with every1 stepping things up. And just because you aren't seeing the results of this right away doesn't mean that nothing is happening, it takes time and by 06/07-on, things should get/be interesting for all.

The Z06 will have 500 hp, (much more than just a rumor). The rumored ZL1/"Blue Devil" will have 625.
