The V8 also does not need premium gas to get its 362 HP figure. Regular gas will do it fine.

You sure?

It might swallow ULP but I'm sure the max power is attained on PULP? Well it is here.

Well, it seems the power window switches are in the center console (like my fiancee's '03 Saturn L200). I'm sure it will catch a few nits for that.

What is the beef with the parking/emerg. brake? Would you rather it be on the console, opposite the driver (where I believe it is on an F-car, for instance)?

For reference, my Miata has it right next to the driver, my Camaro has it closer to the passenger seat, and my Ion has it dead in the middle.



I think I prefer the middle or closer to the driver for ease of use.

The car looks phenomenal. That's gotta be the shortest front overhang this side of an E36 Bimmer. Too bad we have to wait until early next year for it - I thought the order process was supposed to start around August meaning cars on the road sometime in the fall?

I was just looking at the close up shots of the G8 from the Chicago show on the g8power.com site and noticed that the fender vent looks to be a blank - ie. not functional. In all the VE shots I've seen to date the vents looks "real" so I just assumed they were. Does any one know for sure if it is functional or not (I suspect some of our Aussie friends can verify it). Whether such details are real or just for show wouldn't keep me from getting a G8 - I'm just curious and not in a nit-picking kind of way. I wonder if the hood is functional (at least for cooling if nothing else) or not.

yes. i find driver side ones are not as easy to use.

From the looks of that picture, I agree... they look to be fake.

That would be the first disappointing thing I can really think of about this car so far.

In my opinion, this thing looks amazing in person, and I have a urgent desire to put a G8 in my garage. I really wish that the big brakes were making their way into production, but that's what the aftermarket is for.

The vents on the Commodores of the last few years have always been decorative. I don't see the G8 being any different.

That settles that then, they're for show. Even so, as I said, they don't detract from the car at all (as far as I'm concerned), so I don't feel that my enthusiasm is dampened at all. I'd still be very much interested in getting one.

I think the only disappointing part of the whole thing is the wait. Looks like we're still essentially a year out from having these beasts prowling the streets. It would be nice if GM unveiled a new car at one of these shows and started taking orders right away, no multi-season wait - you can have that hot new car in your driveway in about three months, do you want it with a stick or not, in black or red? - now that would be something.

Man, I was just reading through some of the comments posted about the car. There are some real ignorant suckas out there...

I'm with you in my excitement for this car.

In fact, in a way I'm more excited about it than the GTO, because based on the initial reveal and the reviews I've heard about for the Australian version, the car seems to be absolutely spot on for its intended mission. Even though I loved the '04-'06 Goat, the G8 isn't saddled with the GTO's baggage of a controversial name, somewhat vanilla styling, and compromises due to the age of the platform (like moving the fuel tank to the trunk). The G8 is just about perfect. I wouldn't mind an option to delete the hood scoops (yeah, I know, Pontiac will love to hear those comments after all the hell they got for NOT having them on the GTO).

I keep pinching myself to see if it is real. A boldly designed, well built, RWD, V8 / MT - powered sedan. Simply awesome. I've been in the LX cars a few times, and I think they drive great. But the styling, the brick wall dash, the claustrophobic feel of the interior (despite its actual roominess) b/c of the high beltline and gunslit windows, the lack of a manual option...all these things detract from the cars imo. The G8 offers the room of the LX cars while not suffering from these shortcomings.

This really is a monumental moment in modern GM history. The car seems to be well turned out (to me that is expected; GM has turned out lots of well done cars). The monumental part is that it is well done AND RWD. It is something for which we enthusiasts have been longing for quite some time...

Quoted for truth. In all likelihood, I won't be getting a Camaro in a couple of years - if I'm going to deal with the hassle of only two doors, I'll just go with a Vette. But the G8 - here's a perfectly-sized performance sedan that should wear a very acceptable price tag (the CTS-V is a great deal, but it's out of my price range), and it looks great as well. I can totally see this complimenting - or replacing - my Impala.

first of all, according to this pic it's an L76, not a L98


second, i don't think it's just a matter of tuning between the L76 and the LS2... the L76 has Active Fuel Management, and that is probably want accounts for the horsepower difference

Yes, part of the reason for the power decrease is that they lowered the compression of the G8 motor. Now there is no need to premium gas. At least that is what the Holden article I read said.
