It has been posted that the Grand Prix is going RWD. If they build this RWD Grand Prix on the same platform as the next GTO, then couldn't they do the same with the Monte Carlo and the Impala?

 

Thank god, This may not be a new Camaro but this is a huge win for us Camaro fans. We finally have some RWD options at Chevy. This also means that there is a cheaper RWD platform at GM that they could maybe shorted a bit and put a new camaro on. The other 2 cars will pay for most of the R&D so it should make a lower volume Camaro even pssoible.

I hope the cars stay at about the same size, I wouldn't want an Impala SS the size of the 94-96 ones.

So when they say 2006, do they mean coming out in 2005 as a 2006 model, or actually coming in 2006?

 

I just assumed everything Chevy, Poncho or Buick (Grand Prix, GTO, Impala, Monte, etc) made in volume would be bassed of the revised version of Sigma - "Sigma Lite" as it used to be called - comming out in 2005? Makes sense to me, finally cut costs way down!

 

Hrmmm...Holdens engineering the 05 VE to be fully federalized and incorporate Sigma bits......

 

Doesn't the return of a Monte Carlo to rwd and a V8 kinda hurt the chances of a new Camaro by the thinking that there might not be enough of a case to have 2 rwd, V8 coupes?

 

IMHO, I would say no. Remember, the F4 Camaro has a wheelbase of about 100 or so inches. The Holden-based GTO is in the neighborhood of 109 inches for wheelbase. The Monte has 110.5 inches of wheelbase. So, I would say that there is opportunity for a "smaller" RWD V8 sports car with 2+2 seating. Also, I would think given the overall dimensions of the F4 Camaro that there would be opportunities to shorten the car, lengthen the wheelbase some, and increase interior room.

When you read the articles on Monday & Tuesday, keep in mind they will say the cars will be introduced by 2007.

This does not mean they are comming out IN 2007. They will be out in 2006 barring any setbacks.

They perhaps may be 'called' 2007s (if they come out after December 2005), or if introduced a couple of months early (during the traditional Fall new car introductions) they'll be called 2006s, but they almost certainly will be out BEFORE 2007.

Key word here: "by..."!

 

I agree with everything you said, but there's one excption. The next Mustang will have a wheelbase that's about 9" longer than it is now, putting it around 109", though it's length remains about the same. I'm guessing Camaro would go the same route, unless it shrunk greatly enough to shorten overhang without lengthing the wheebase any.

Also, though I haven't heard anything specific, it would be roughly about now that the ball should be rolling on Chevrolet's "4 seat RWD sporty car" if it's going to be back in time for the 40th anniversairy of the currently absent "4 seat RWD sporty car".

Just spectulating here.

Hey guionM... with Chevrolet having the return of this "4 seat RWD sporty car" soon to be in the works can we expect that Pontiac will be following suit?

Not that I really have any idea what we're talking about... I guess I'm just a big Poncho fan
