Re: More GTO new PT. II

Unfortunately, I have to side with Charlie on this one. I have spoken with rls several different times when I was considering a GXP, as he worked on that program as well. The man flat knows his stuff, and appears every bit as credible as Charlie gives him credit for here.

If this is what rls is saying, don't expect a GTO past '06 until GM gets off its butt and prepares a new model. Lets hope the work with Holden goes faster than we expect.

That sure didn't come out sounding too good, Jason.

As far as I'm concerned rls is dead nutz reliable.

Re: More GTO new PT. II

Off the top of my head, I can't remember the exact Monaro production numbers....but I think it was only several hundred.
So why not make an extra 10000 or 15000 of the 2006 GTO's and ship them over. I recall as late as last year seeing the sales stats from GM's published results and they were still selling a few new 2002 Camaros on their lots in 2004.

I agree, I'd like to see them build and stockpile as many as possible.

... and anything built on or after Jan 1 of 2006 can even be tagged as a 2007 model, right?

So they coudl build out a 2006 model year, and a 2007 model year... unless those crash standards, if true, apply to the model year rather than the build date in some way.

So now we're back to where we were two months ago? This is getting a little dizzying.

So, it sounds like they could, in theory, make the 2006 model year run, then produce 2007's up til the cutoff date if they wanted to...

I don't think they are allowed to be sold as '07s per the same law that has the sept 1 cutoff date.

Re: More GTO new PT. II

They can sure sell them as 06's for as long as they want. Any 06 GTO built before 9/1/06 will forever be known as an 06 GTO. And like I mentioned above, they were selling 02 Camaros as new 02 models from Chevy dealers, well into CY 2004.

I went and test drove an 05 GTO yesterday. WOW. There was a HUGE difference between that and the 04 I had test driven. Much more available power and responsiveness (drove an A4 both times). It felt like the car had received a PCM tweak in addition to the other goodies like the newly found 50 hp. I don't have much of a chance with the Wifey negotiations... but it won't stop me from trying! Very nice car

Well, I'm glad you knew what I meant You are right, that didn't sound so good at first read...I'm just bummed that you are correct, and that the GTO may go on hiatus AGAIN. Here's to hoping the Zeta/Holden replacement won't make us wait too long...

Re: More GTO new PT. II

If I'm reading this right, they won't build GTOs because of the lack of newer airbags.

How hard would it be to put the newer airbags in the GTO? Couldn't they do that?

I'm guessing it would need to go through expensive crash tests...
