Is there any precedent for this? have two auto companies so big ever got together and then went like, "Yeah... this isn't working for me?"

Its not like there are any Chrysler/Mercedes dealers or all that much tech sharig going on... So it wouldn't have to be that bad... Or would it?

I'm not so sure that the Chrysler "division" could make it on it's own anymore. Someone would have to buy them, I'd think.

A great many possibilities here. As you said, Chrysler would not be able to stand on its own. Even though they haven't integrated that much with Mercedes, the seas have grown much harsher since they were last on their own. GM can barely stay on its feet, it's hard to imagine Chrysler bearing the load.

On the other hand, Chrysler could be a tempting purchase for a group of investors. The brand has a good core set of products, powerful brands, resources, and of course, the always attractive Jeep. If they can wrestle a good deal from the UAW, the might be able to function as an independent company funded by some deep pockets (Kerkorian?).

True. But I'd consider that an optimistic, best case scenario.

Assuming for a moment Kerkorian was a possible buyer. You know he would try to work a deal with Carlos Gosen ASAP.

And it would be even more pointless then before...
