Considering that the 5th gen uses a modern design and does not go retro, it needs to have a design that can compete with the reaction the 05 Mustang stirred. So out of curiosity, what design elements of modern cars (say 1993 and up) did you like, not like, or would like to see incorporated into a 5th gen?

Personally,
-I always thought that the lines of the 1999 3000GT VR4 were great. It looks a bit too beefy to call them Camaro lines. It has that muscle car look though to me. The front end looks great and reminds me a lot of the LS1 front end.
-The rear profile of the Jag XKR doesn't have that "look at my ***" look of the corvette, and adds to a sleek look. I couldn't care less for the front or side.
-The stance and side of the 300ZX is simply classic. Linky


What design cues in other modern cars or concepts have you liked or would like to see molded in some way into a 5th gen?

When it coems to 4th gen's, Whistler's Z28 is by far, the best looking 4th gen around and I think would also be a decent start for a 5th gen along with the Stingray III

How about wheels and tires that completely fill out the wheel wells. Think BMW M3?

I also like the spoilerless look. It's cleaner, sleaker and spoilers seem kind of tacky these days (becoming more rare on sports cars, but almost always on econoboxes).

I think round tail lamps (like corvette, but circular) would be very nice, and would differentiate the car from other cars.

"blacked out" headlamps like on the 2001 mustangs and many other cars give a more aggressive look.

And I hate amber tail lamps.

 

After looking at those pictures I'd have to say your assessment is very open to debate... :blah:

Plus, why are we looking at other cars for 5th Gen styling cues when we have 35 years of great looks to pick and choose from? I don't want a Camaro that resembles a hodge-podge of other cars.

 

We do have 35 years of cues from Camaro, but if you create a modern 5th gen (no retro), it's bound to look like something else in some aspect. Some part will remind you of some other part. So really my question is what type of small things would you prefer on a 5th gen that we can see on other cars as an example. WERM mentioned the spoilerless look that you can see on pasta rockets and the wheel wells. Small things. There's always small things you will like from one car to the next from the way a wheel looks to the shape of tail lights to the stance of a car. Raised fenders like on the 2003 Sunoco 427 Camaro are something I want to see on a 5th gen.
Even if you design a 5th gen with cues, there will still need to be many original looking parts. You can't use cues on every square inch of a 5th gen without going heavily retro.

 

I've been saying this for a while too, but even though Stingray III Concept is old (1989 I think) it really strikes me as a starting point for a modern, agressive Camaro shape... especially the front end!

 

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about. As much as I liked the 4th Gen, it was amazing what some aggressive fender buldges did to the character of the car (if you haven't seen the car in person you might be too quick to dismiss that, but it's true). What a fresh look it would've given the '98 Camaro when they switched fascias and engines.

Those buldges weren't carbon copies of 1st gen fenders either. They were a very modern (and probably exaggerated) interpretation of a past Camaro cue.
