The Mitsubishi misery thread
The Mitsubishi misery thread
Mitsubishi is getting slammed so often and so frequently, it's a constant distraction from our "flavor of the week" car subject (this week seems to be Colbalt).
So whenever it seems that YOU have big problems to deal with, or you begin to think that GM, Ford, or Chrysler has serious issues, it pales in comparison to what's going on at Mitsu.

And finally, seems Australia did give Mitsu more money (I thought they refused). The deal however, is eerily similar to the situation that created the Camaro/Firebird agreement with Ste Therese:

i don't think Mitsu is going anywhere. it's going to come into new management who will publicly distance themselves from its predecessors and appear to make sweeping changes in how Mitsu motors does business. in the end it will be a "lesson learned" type of situation and they'll move on from there.
i don't know if the parent company will end up keeping it around tho. it might be picked up by someone like GM who seems to keep going after failing foreign ventures and turning them into failing domestic ones. ha.

hmmm. DCX already owns a minority of Mitsu .... let the value of shares drop and drop. Use the tax advantages created by the loss in value of the minority interest to create cash (or purchasing power). Then move on establishing a controlling interest at a fraction of the cost (i.e move to 51%).
Then start rebuilding from the bottom up.
Just a Theory.
Oh no ... I just had a vision of Diamond Star motors churning out 4 cyl dodge avengers again!

Either their parent company will bail them out, or their parent company (and prime stockholder I believe) will sell them off, effectively killing the automotive brand's name (can't use the Mitsubishi name on cars if that arm is sold since Mitsubishi will still be around making other stuff!).
Either way, I don't expect them to actually go bankrupt.
You can't even write stuff like this:

Statement On Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Warranty
Statement On Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Warranty
June 18, 2004 -- Cypress, Calif. --
Mitsubishi Motors and our dealers strive to be reasonable in evaluating each customer' s vehicle that is brought into a dealership for a possible warrantable condition in order to provide excellent customer service. We give the benefit of the doubt to everyone and appreciate their respect for the terms and conditions of our warranty. Mitsubishi does not have any automated web search system looking for Lancer Evolutions involved in race events. This is absolutely false.
Mitsubishi clearly states in its Owner's Warranty and Maintenance booklet that problems or failures related to racing, alteration and/or vehicle modifications are not covered conditions. This policy is standard throughout the automotive industry, and is even less restrictive than some manufacturer warranties, such as BMW and Subaru, that prohibit operating a vehicle in any type of competitive event.
If a Lancer Evolution is brought to Mitsubishi Motors dealer for a diagnosis as to a possible warrantable condition and the dealer determines that modifications were made that may have caused the problem, or could be instrumental in causing future problems, the repair will not be covered. The dealer and if necessary, MMNA staff, investigate each case, always giving the owner the benefit of the doubt. If the dealer does indeed find that serious vehicle modifications have been made that relate to a vehicle problem and/or damages, then it is possible that a restriction will be placed on that vehicle's warranty coverage as it relates to the specific modification, damaged component(s) and impacted vehicle systems. The entire vehicle warranty is not voided.
