Mercedes to eliminate petroleum in cars by 2015

Plan to have no vehicles that require gasoline in their lineup b 2015. That's quite the goal.

Good for them. Anything that can come to the market to diminish oil's stranglehold on the USA is awesome in my book!

I will bet that this is just a marketing ploy to say that "Our goal is to eliminate gas in our vehicles by 2015" so that people who are suckers say," Oh, look at Mercedes. They are trying to help the environment and stop the evil oil companies so I will buy thier vehicle. I can feel good about my purchase now". This is a quick way to try to get people to buy Mercedes vehicles. They won't do it.

This reminds me of a lady at my work who bought a Toyota Corolla because the salesman said that "Toyota would have nothing but Hybrids by 2012". That statement felt good to her so she bought the car. I couldn't help but think, you are a complete sucker.

Either they know something that we don't, or this is a marketing ploy.

The first option is really, really, really scary.

Well they invented the automobile so...

What I would like to see is the energy being supplied by automakers instead of oil companies. But the cynical nature in me suggests the world might not be ready to implement new energy systems even if the systems are ready and viable...

So they are saying that they are going back to 100% Diesel cars? I guess I could see that happening. Eventually the price of gas and diesel should come back to 1:1 once the current supply glut of gasoline is gone and US refiners start making more diesel.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit if it was there either in 2009 or 2010. Hell, it's almost at 150 right now. It was ~half that price this time last year.
