Mazda6 TT 276hp awd

http://www.autoweek.com/cat_content...._code=07383418

Mazda is prepping its own entry for the Subie-Mitsu rally wars—a 276-hp, 265-lb-ft Mazda 6 scheduled for a mid-2005 world debut. Spotted during hot-weather tests in the California desert, this sizzling prototype gets a twin-turbocharged and intercooled 2.3-liter four that is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and sends power via all-wheel drive to 18-inch tires.

Based on Mazda’s Mazda Performance Series concept shown in Paris in 2002, the production model should debut at this September’s Paris show, carrying either the MPS or MazdaSpeed moniker.

I hope GM is serious about making an awd G6 (that performs!).

about damn time. nice!

this probably means that the Linclons/Fords/Volvos based on this platform get the AWD benefites too.

I agree Mazda 6 is a nice car... but a twin turbo on an inline 4? One turbo per two cylinders?

twin turbo? Maybe single turbo, but twin? 276hp is pretty high, I think they pulled that number out of a hat. I say 240 single turbo, AWD and it will be between the WRX and Evo RS.

uh.... Mitsu gets 276hp (bogus closer to 300hp) from 2.0L so what's so unlikely about 276hp from 2.3L?

not saying its not possible, but probable. At the same time, why cant Dodge get 350hp stock out of the SRT4 if the Evo makes 300 out of 2.0?

That 276 hp number comes from an informal limit to advertised hp in Japan.

My question is, why use a turbo 4 when you could easily get that out of a V6...............and probably cheaper? Is this just for the ricer crowd?

because you can only tune a n/a V6 for so long, but a turbo 4 can have a lot of play.

and I forgot about that "276" limit.

Lincoln Zephir (is that its name/codename) based on Mazda6 platform was stated to be offered as FWD initially, with the possibility of AWD.

Doubt Taurus replacement will get AWD, though. Any word on that?

Doesn't Dodge offer performance upgrades (Mopar) through its dealerships? The misadvertised 215 HP SRT-4 (while outputting 230 to the wheels) can be upgraded for more HP. Seeing as right now it has around 250, upgrading for another 30 to 50 is not all that hard.

Probably single turbo, mistyped. Unless they are doing a setup similar to TT Supra, where one turbo was smaller for quicker initial boost and the other turbo was bigger for the all-out performance boost. Or was it Nissan 300ZX?

muckz - that was the supra and the RX7 i believe.

About the choice of an I4 over a V6, I'll cost is the factor. The cost of producing a high compression, rev happy v6 (assuming the 3.0 would be used) w/ some sote of variable value timing would not be cheaper vs turboing the high volume I4 that is sold world wide. And given the car is would be sold world wide, the I4 is the better choice given fuel economy (if you stay out of boost) and just pure production numbers.

Last I heard, the SVT Futura ( or whatever it's going to be named...since Futura is not available)....was getting a 250-270 hp V6.
