I am sarcastically twirlling my finger in the air right now... "wooopie..."
I am fairly disappointed in the look of the new Malibu. The station wagon version doesn't really make me like it any more either.
Are they really going to stick with that name??? Malibu Maxx ?!?!?

Yup, you can see Maxx SS right here: http://wieck.com/public/*2PV_050357
I know I'll probably be in the minority here, but I like it. It's not a sports car, obviously, but it's definitely a practical vehicle, has good standard equipment, and isn't a bad execution of a wagon/hatch theme. The rear reminds me a little of the IS330 SportCross. Starting price is around $21,000. I'll have to see one in person, but I'm seriously thinking about getting one for the wife.

Let's see... the last time something like this was tried by Chevy was the Corsica Hatch thing... that flew like a ton of bricks.
The back is too odd looking , IMO. The rest is boring, like the standard Malibu. The name is still horrible. Makes me think of Thunderdome! But the car doesn't fit the image... lol...

I agree Maxx is a horrible name, but I think the car looks fine for its class. The Camry and Accord are both incredibly boring and they're the best selling cars in America. I know this isn't "Joeaveragecarbuyer.com" it's Camaro Z28.com so it's not really the target audience.

When discussing the blandness of the Malibu, a lot of people say, "yeah, but the Accord and Camry sell well and they're bland." I think people are getting cause and effect mixed up. They don't sell well because they are bland, they sell well in spite of it. It's their other attributes, like quality and reliability, that sell the cars, something the Malibu cannot rely upon.
Having said that, I like the looks of the current Malibu. Then again, I was the happy owner of a 1991 Maxima too. The new Malibu, however, leaves me cold.

GM for producing a hideous, low-buck styled car. These days, the Camry looks better than any of the Lexus sedans, and the Altima is smooth rocketship. Chevrolet has decided to break with the trend by producing a car that manages to be more anonymous than any Japanese appliance, and vaguely offensive. What a combo. My suggestion is that they should call the Malibu the "Alamo," because so much of production will be headed to the rental fleets.
The funny thing is that the current Malibu isn't a bad looking car, despite the desperate shodiness that pervades the entire vehicle. Now with the new car being revealed, my suspicions are confirmed. The Malibu is just a half-hearted attempt to clone the last generation Camry, but with corporate-parts-bin components that are positively primitive. You can talk about the Ecotec and "new" pushrod 3.5 liter, but the 16 valve is undersized for this class of car and a pushrod V6 is nothing to brag about these days. It's funny how GM is touting a "250hp Malibu SS" when that level of performance has become the mainstream.
Unless you're a veteren of Pearl Habor, or a United Auto Worker, I just don't see the point of Malibu ownership. Heck, Chevrolet could have just skipped the redesign. Who would have noticed?
No on to a better question: has anybody seen those $239/month Camry leases?
