Malibu Maxx to be killed??!

Normally don't repeat rumors without multiple sources (got burned too may times) but word from one normally accurate source has the Maxx not returning when the Malibu grows in size & moves to the Espilon 2 later this decade.

Anyone else hear this?

BTW: 1st info on the "Design Study" coupe scheduled for NAIAS: The nose has been changed, but the body's the same from the drawings & photoshop of the car that danno & others described to us here and at C&G for 'Crispey'. The car is still described as not retro, but "heritage".

Also a certain RWD chassis is being done at (for GM) blistering speed. As soon as work's done, it's going to be out. There is a target year, but the consensus is Don't necessarily believe it (in a good way ).

Re: Malibu Maxx to be killed??!

I have heard that rumor too, either posted here or in another forum. I had heard the reason was it competes too closely with the Equinox (which I don't understand) or just isn't selling.

I think it's a shame, because if the new Malibu is a stunner like everyone sez, the next Maxx could be a hot product.

Now, they say the Maxx isn't returning, do they mean car or name? Could a Maxx like vehicle be rebadged Malibu EXT (or something)?

I'm happy to hear about the nose job, none of the ones I've seen in any of the Danno related drawings did anything for me.

Re: Malibu Maxx to be killed??!

I don't really think too many people are gonna miss the Maxx that much, especially if the normal Malibu is growing in size.

The Camaro information you provided certainly is interesting. I wish the term "heritage" styling had a more absolute definition.

Re: Malibu Maxx to be killed??!

Heritage is just GM's politically correct term for retro.

Won't miss the Maxx.

As for the sort-of info on the Camaro (which for some reason, seems to be a dirty word), we've now narrowed it down to sometime between MY2007 and MY2010.

This is new, I guess.

I actually heard this about a month ago from a relation who works for GM. If this turns out to be true, he will be 2 for 2 on matters like this.

That's too bad, IMO. Great idea at the wrong time I suppose, but I've sold them on their merits pretty easily. Only the "hatch-back" looks got in the way of a person buying them, but after a nice drive and showing off sky glass and two postion shelving (amongst other things), it's a pretty easy sale.

What I heard was that the Maxx would be superfluous with a slightly larger Malibu.

Heritage means that you will instantly recognize it as a Camaro and it'll have traits of many past Camaros.....Retro means that they took a car at a point in time and made a new one.

Re: Malibu Maxx to be killed??!

I just drove a C6 yesterday at work and somebody is going to have to point out some of "all the heritage cues" other than the tail-lights. Looks like a kick-@ss C5 evolution to me.
