Good news. Forster's not a bad guy, but Lutz is Lutz.

That's good to hear!!! However, I hope a German or European takes the reigns once Lutz decides to leave. Reason? The cultural shift in GM which began under Lutz must continue...

The mad scientist in me would still like to see Mooney or someone from Holden take the reigns from Lutz. From what guionM says, a move like that would REALLY shake things up.

No so much Mooney (an American who I think used to run Oldsmobile). He's a company guy who moved up through GM's management, and by the looks of it, was initially picked to oversee Holden's integration into GMNA's operations. Holden lost their complete independence on his watch. On the plus side, he's won over alot of Holden's staff who initially felt he was giving away the company, although alot of the things that Holden can look forward to regarding anything having to do with the VE and Zeta was set up or at least put on the radar before he got there.

I'd like to see them drag Holden's old CEO Peter Hanenberger out of retirement. Now THAT would be something.

That's the guy from Opel who GM shipped to the then "dead end" job at Holden, where he created a wide range of cars off the same components, massively expanded Holden's export business, got GM into Korea via Holden, and had a hand in China, got Holden's long goal of selling a model in the US, thumbed his nose at Sigma, refused to buy into GMNA's stereotype of Holden's ability to create a whole new car, and instead of redoing a V-car created a whole new platform. Although he retired nearly 3 years ago, his influence will continue to be felt for at least another few years.

As long as I'm enguaging in fantasies here, GM could bring former Team Mustang then SVT chief John Coletti out of retirement. Unlike everyone else I can think of, he'd be every bit as quotable, entertaining, and perhaps a bit more standoffish and funny than even Bob Lutz. I don't know if he'd be as adept navigating GM's politics as Lutz, but he'd most certainly shake things up.

But realistically though, I think Welburn is the only other person at GM who has the ability and star power of Lutz. Next choice I'd say Dave Hill who currently is running Corvette.

IMHO, if GM really wants someone with pull, star power, and will not only shake things up but make the trains run on time, they'd pull in Wolfgang Bernhard and place him 2nd under Lutz (as Lutz's evential replacement) before Dieter Zetsche grabs Bernhard to run Chrysler.

Man, they could have at least included a link in the story back to the source of the article.

I also hinted at this in the piece....

I said it years ago when they had the chance to snag him from DCX, he's a formidable replacement for Lutz, and is young enough to really make a difference.

They'd be fools not to pursue Wolfgang.

That was right after the C6 was introduced, if I'm not mistaken. I believe that was his last hoorah.
