50,000 units per year. (not 10,000 or so, as had been hinted previously)

Challenger will cost DCX $145 million.

Production will start almost exactly 2 years from today.

Zeta I, Holden's VE, came in pretty heavy (3800+) but the Zeta II should be lighter by a little bit since the body structure is Sigma based not V-car based.

That shocks me a little.

I was under the impression they could get it out a lot quicker.

The platform is ready, the engines are there…..seems like it should be a quick off the shelf put-together car…..

I guess it won’t be the Camaro to market as bad as we thought…..

Re: Lots of interesting Challenger bits here.

It won't be two years. I'll say this once and once only. Lutz is knee deep in the project. Look at the last vehicle that have been released under his watch:

HHR? You all wanted it DEAD! GM raised the production figures TWICE...now it's well over 100k units annually.

The Lucerne? Outselling everything in it's class. He delayed the Regal replacement because it was lackluster. I've seen it. You'd be saying Buick should be dead right about....yesterday.

Then there's the "Ultimate Lutz Vehicle" the.......Solstice and Kappa. Sold out for this year, with the GXP & Red Line sold out through next year, I say a new one is coming before 2009. People think I'm a lunatic.

Either way, Lutz is knee deep in Zeta, it won't be "two years" I'd still bet a pay check on a limited run production Camaro........NEXT year.

Gosh where would anyone get that idea. Oh yea, look what you're saying.

You can't build a Camaro, or any car, without parts. RFQ's haven't even gone out to suppliers. 2007 is a pipe dream and any logical person knows that.

Yeah, I read that post. I haven't seen the MT story that he is referencing though.

Anyway, I haven't heard about any delays in the Camaro's platform. Then again, I'm still expecting it as a MY '10 in CY '09.

The Australian media is saying that the Zeta Commodore is 140kg heavier than the current one. For our purposes, that's 140kg heavier than the GTO. Or about 310 pounds. Add 310 pounds to the GTO and you're between 4000 and 4100, depending on who's doing the weighing, what options, etc.

Taking out a few inches of wheelbase isn't going to take off much weight, especially if you also remove the B-pillar and put in a longer door. My guess is that if they don't do any extra engineering, the Camaro would be at most 100 pounds lighter. But I would assume that there will be some extra effort to take out more weight.

I still think it'll be a minor miracle to get close to weight of the 2002 model -- you're talking about 400-500 pounds of weight reduction without adding cost in exotic materials.

I'm still betting on 3800, which is actually a bit less than a BMW 650i, I think, and about the same as a Mercedes CLK55. They are luxury models, which means they have more equipment, but also that they can afford more aluminum, etc. If the Camaro gets down to 3650, GM will deserve a hearty "congratulations", though they'll likely get complaints instead. Such is the way of life.

Btw, I'm talking about the V8 model above, and I'm just estimating, based on looking at other cars on the market and info from published sources.

If it was 2 years, then it's about the same schedule as the Camaro?
