LNF Stage 1 kit from gmpp

Old news, but it got me thinking... This kit (a new map sensor and a flash) will not void your warranty, but can bump the 260hp/260tq LNF to 290hp/340tq

For $650, thats a good deal. For a MAP sensor and a flash, its pretty expensive

I only hope GM actually considered sticking the LNF into Zeta. Would a Zeta LNF's handle lugging ~4000lb at highway speeds?

Add in a CAI and a cat-back with this tune and your warranty should remain and have some pretty hefty gains. I'm curious what GM will do with the stage II kit.

Personally, this makes the HHR SS even more attractive - and a Sky RL starts to look pretty intense!

LNF Camaro would probably only weigh about 3600 - 3650lbs.

True. I'm also curious about how an LNF would handle the G8. An LNF G8 with a stick could be a massive amount of fun, despite the weight. If the MPG was better than the V6 of course.

And at the same time, what if Camaro goes onto the Alpha platform and this engine was an option in the lighter chassis?

Ordered this kit over the weekend. Going price if you search is actually $550. Hard to beat 30 HP and 80 ftlbs.TQ for ~$550 once you factor in the labor charged by the dealer for the flash. Wish it was that cheap and easy to make those kind of gains with an N/A car.

I think the best item on this upgrade kit though is the fact that the car will no longer "learn down" increases in HP and TQ. Up until this you could install a CAI and exhaust and the car would slowly over time reduce the power gained initially. Now you can add your CAI and exhaust on top of the Upgrade kit and make over 300 HP and 350 ftlbs. of Tq. and not worry about the power vanishing. Plus you get to keep your factory warranty.

This actually is referred to as the Stage II upgrade kit. Don't know what "I" was I never saw it.

Too bad the HHR and Cobalt only get 315tq as the FWD trans cant handle the power.

What would it take to have a RWD car about on par with the Cobalt? A small sub 3,000lb RWD car for under $20K (what Cobalt SS's are going for at dealers right now) would be so awesome.

I can't remember his username, but there was a person posting in the lounge a few weeks ago that just had this done to his Sky RL and loved it.

That was me. Stage I is technically considered the intake and exhaust from GMPP which I also have. The difference is night and day compared between the tune and stock. Just when stock was signing off the new tune is just getting started. Although it is 30 hp "peak" there is about 50hp across most of the range. I went from 14 psi peak to 23. Woo hoo.

Having driven it for a couple of weeks with the kit in I can say I am thoroughly impressed. From what I understand, there is about 1400 to 1800 changes in the tables compared to stock which the aftermarket tuners (HPT etc) can not read. Add on top of that the changes in the variable cams timing etc.

I fail. I searched for different GMPP kits online and couldnt find anything on any of them.

That's still an arm-wrenching amount of torque for a little FWD bugger. I'm curious how it'd feel with the posi and the increased torque steer.

Thoughts on the intake and exhaust and associated power gains/noise? (as most I4's tend to sound like fart blasters)

And the lack of a "learn down" is pretty intense too.

I wonder what results there would be taking your car and then adding an intercooler and piping upgrade.

New Cobalt SS turbos are not going for under 20k at dealers. The base MSRP is 23,425, and everyone who gets this car for the performance adds the LSD for $495. GM Employee discount is currently $21,583 for one with no options. You may however be thinking of a sale a few dealers had for pretty cheap Cobalt SSs a couple months ago. Apparently a shipment was 'wind damaged' (paint problems) and were sold with a lesser warranty for 16-20k each. I don't know how many cars this affected, but it was a fairly large number (100 or so? There were a bunch on Ebay a while ago)

I plan on getting the upgrade when it becomes available for the Cobalt

Expensive? That's less what many reputable tuners charge to reflash your PCM, and that VOIDS your warranty. Not to mention a new MAF sensor. This is a rather good deal if you ask me. It's not the amount of work it takes to do it - it's what you get and how much you're willing to pay for it. People with naturally aspirated cars need to spend thousands to get 80 lbs-ft of torque increase, and that's only with a V8 engine (can't squeeze it out of n/a 4-cylinder or even 6).

Why not? It's 260 HP (or 290 with the flash). Cars of the 70s that weighed close to 4000 lbs had 140 HP and maybe 200 lbs-ft of torque. It won't be lightning fast, but it will haul it around.

I was wondering this too. my 94 eldorado with the 275 ft lb northstar torque steered like crazy when I went WOT. it was actually hard to keep it going straight.

when I get in a better financial situation I would LOVE to own a new cobalt SS. such awesome little cars.

I realize it is actually quite "cheap". But when you order the $550 kit, you get a pigtail and a map sensor with a slip of paper. The work in the ECU (again, maintaining warranty and unlocking parameters even the best tuner houses cannot touch) is incredible. The power/$ results are amazing - and the warranty is just icing on the cake.

Also, I realize it will move around in a Zeta - but would this engine (lets say) get better mpg results than the 260hp V6 in Zeta now while providing better feel/NVH? Also, would throwing the engine into boost so often provide increased warranty issues to GM with blowing turbos and head gaskets?

I can put a Cam/Springs in my LS1 for ~$600.00. 50-70rwhp Gain.

I think the 315tq is for the auto transmissions, and this isn't released for the cobalt yet.

I think they tried it. The mpg increases were minimal to none when compared to the 3.6L DI. So having less power at the same mpg didn't make sense. My memory gets real foggy as to why. But I seem to remember something about the engine running on boost most of the time which killed the mpg.
