Live axel saves $300 on 2005 Stang
furtheremore, wasnt the guy that did that rear suspension for hte mustang a genious or something, I dont think anyone can complain until we drive the car and see. but yeah, smart move by ford.
but quite honestly, most mustang drivers, no wait, most car buyers dont care, nor do they know what kind of rear suspension they have.
ford is not going to lose sales because of going live axel, drag racers will buy it, chicks will buy it, and auto=x will buy the cobra.

3rd, Ford's going to sell every single DEW-based Mustang they can make for at least the 1st year or 2 (till Chevy and Dodge get their cars out). If they can get out just 300,000 Mustangs with the live axle before they install their already engineered IRS to compete with the competition, Ford has just made itself $90 million!!!

well, not exactly right? because material costs are usually passed on to the customer with a premium anyway. the only good thing out of all this is that the base price is some $$$ less. that's it.

Say Ford already factored in not just the cost of developing the Mustang's IRS but also the cost of materials into the price of each Mustang, a almost certain likelihood. That essentially means that for the next 2 years or so at least, Ford's collecting extra money off the live axle cars because although IRS materials & development has already been factored in with the pricing from the very begining, the cars have live axles that garner $300 extra money (minus the costs of converting the chassis to take both, say between $25-75 per car).
Again, moving just 300,000 cars over the next couple of years years that way is a vault full of money.
