Monaro styling is just so sterile, IMO , for this type of car.

I certainly won't argue with the idea, but it just seems so plain-jane.

It does have clean lines though... just not very exciting to me.

Agreed with Darth (as usual.) No one could ever accuse the Monaro of being an ugly car, for sure...it just doesn't much resemble a muscle car....then again we have to keep in mind that this is not an American muscle car, so I'm still hoping that this is where Pontiac steps up to the plate a little bit.

Interesting thing in the press release is that it will have a 235KW engine with Dual chrome pipes. They gained 10KW power from teh dual exhaust. What is 235KW anyway 315 HP. We know teh GTO won't be here with just that....hahah

Yeah but if its that bland...

I'm not really worried though. Pontiac is known for their aggressive styling. It shoudl be fine when it gets here.

Yup, its too bland. I still don't see how that car will ever be a modern GTO. Besides the drivetrain. It doesn't look like a musclecar.

After driving two 4th gen Firebirds, one of which being my current WS6 Trans Am, I welcome a fast car thats not over the top. Besides I think the new GTO will have looks that are closer to the HSV version rather than the regular Monaro.

Its funny how you look at it..

The monaro looks sedate in pictures.

Have a look at it the metal you will appreciate it more...

As for Pontiac styling aint a fan of ribs.

Then again I've only seen Pontiacs in picture they may look nicer in the metal.

im not saying too much.... its worth the look on your faces when you see it in the flesh, and how many stubornly persist that its plain.

By far the majority of aussies like the monaro without any add on plasticky ground-effects and rear wings etc....etc...

give me the sleek standard body of the monaro lowered slightly, with the brakes , engine and interior of the HSV and i will be a happy man... oh and a nice 18" set of rims.

Guarantee you it wont look like that when it gets here. They will find some way to make it not as cool as the aussie version. They always do. Just look at all the lame *** imports we get compared to japan/europe.

When the LeMans was redesigned in 1968,there were as many complaints about the GTO version as what's being said about the Monaro version now. Just like in 1968, once the dust settles, and everyone finishes venting & actually see it in real life & discover's the performance for themselves, things will get alot quieter & the "GTO look" will again become a non-issue.

Anthony & Ude-lose are dead on!

In real life the car has 'presence' that simply does not carry over in pictures. As I posted back in July while I was in Melborne, Monaro most definately has a muscular appearence. It does not have any gaudy lines, fake scoops, or any stupid old-Pontiac ribbing, which IMHO would ruin it or turn it into a ricer.

I don't know how the Pontiac grille will play, but I will attest for the bodywork. The best and most accurate way to describe the Monaro in person would be to say it has a "you don't want to f**k with me" look about it, or a " serious inquires only" look.

In black, lowered & with aftermarket 5 spoke 18"ers, that thing looks down right sinister. If they use something like that at it's unveiling, alot of opinions will change very, very quickly!

Thats exactly what I want! Thats what I love about Camaros and Firebirds. Its something I dont get from a Corvette. And I'm not getting that aura from that picture of the CV8. But I'll beleive in what you say. Hopefully it just gets better in '05 too (since you said it was going to be updated).

That is a pretty low profile Monaro, but that doesn't mean the GTO will look like that. just look at the HSV cars, the 427 Monaro, and this one http://www.depaulachevrolet.com/main.jpg
