What V8 engine do you think the RWD Buick will get? Northstar or Gen IV? I can see reasons for and against both.

Whichever Holden uses, which will be the Gen IV.

Earth to Edmunds....the GM 5.7 liter is D-E-A-D....I'm assuming this car will get the LS2(?)

I also take a small issue with their "slow selling GTO" assertion. They should have mentioned the fact that once more realistic dealers combined with small rebates to bring the price down from the stratosphere, GTO has done pretty well.

R.I.P Is the Gen IV the 5.3 Liter? And is the NorthStar staying around?

I think he is referring to the 6.0 liter in the 2005 Corvette, GTO and SSR...

The "Gen IV" is actually the 4th generation family of Chevy/GM small blocks, which are all based off the 6.0 LS2 but with different displacements and power outputs. When they say the new RWD Buick will have a Gen IV, it could be any size pushrod small block. And yes, I believe the Northstar will still be around for Cadillac.

I would bet that GM would use a 300hp 5.3 with DOD in MOST of the V8 Zetas... An LS2 doesnt make sense for mainline applications, since those applications dont need 400hp to be competitive, and do need increased fuel economy.

the good news is that if either of those fit, then so will the LS7

I somehow dont think we're ever going to see the LS7 in anything but the ZO6... Unless you were talking about crate engines...

It was my impression that the 5.3L Gen IV (LS? I don't remember) was itself engineered specificaly for transverse applications...So it would need some modification to be used in a RWD vehicle.

Actually, it looks more like Pontiac's version to me.

Buick's version will infact be a rebadged Holden.
