Just how flexible is C-Flex?

I know that C-Flex can use the same tooling to weld different floorpans and bodyparts on the same assembly line, (ie., CTS and SRX). But does anyone know how disimilar body parts and structures can be and still work with the C-Flex system?

More specifically, could a large 4 door sedan and a small 2 door coupe be built on the same assembly line simultaneously with C-Flex?

Re: Just how flexible is C-Flex?

the thing that would worry me about is that there are gonna have to be parts that are the the same on both model lines for the system to work, like the firewall on Sigma. even if the computer systems can alternate between different models off of one chassis, there still has to to be some parts that are identical on both models.

i think that the small 2 door coupe can be based on the same platform, but i don't think they can be produced on the same line.

Here are some articles on flexible assembly lines. I'm sure there are limitations, but looks pretty flexible to me:

Chrysler seems to have gotten it down. Remember this thread?

Yeah, I was reading that the Challenger could be profitable at very low volumes, since it can be built on the same line as any other LX car.

Toyota's plan and mission is to be able to build any car or truck in any of their plants. This will give them the flexibility to move production around to maximize capacity of "Hot" products.

They are quite a bit ahead of everyone else with this.

Thanks. I found that second one especially interesting.
