... Jeep looks like it is doing the exact opposite at D/C:

When AMC bought out Jeep, they had the sense to keep Jeep separate. When Chrysler bought out AMC to get Jeep, they did as well. Now it seems DC is aiming to water down the Jeep brand by making it more car-like with the intent of saving money.
Jeep has been the most profitable brand for each company that owned it. Jeep kept AMC going when the rest of it's line was hemmoraging & helped finance for Chrysler's 1990s turnaround by being the most profitible line (and the key reason Mercedes bought Chrysler...to get ahold of Jeep).
IMO, DC has the Dodge truck line it can use for more "car-like" trucks, or simply make these vehicles under both Dodge & Chrysler. Jeep is on the same toughness level as Humvee (though alot cheaper). A Humvee's not likely to be based on a Sigma, so why should a Jeep be based on an LX?

I think their attempt to broaden Jeep's market appeal may shoot themselves in the foot by turning off a lot of the people the appeal to now.
Jeep is somewhat distinct in the SUV field, being that they can actually perform offroad compared ot most of the other offerings out there...
......... though they say it still must "be a Jeep"... but... well.... we'll see I guess.
Well, it sounds like by the article, there still is hope..
But it sounds like that Jeep is peering down the slippery slope...

"We wouldn't make a CR-V, a Ford Escape or a RAV4 for the Jeep brand," Murphy says. "Jeep is the real thing."
...
"We will set a floor," he says. "If we can do it on a car-based vehicle, I wouldn't rule it out. But there are minimum standards for Jeep so that Jeep is always Jeep."

...DCX may be asking for it if they aren't very careful.
