including bringing over one hundred and fifty thousand new customers into the GM family in June.
Let me put this into prospective for a few people, that is over double the population of the 3rd largest city, Owensboro pop 66,000, in Kentucky!

Uhm, GM actually spent on average $14 LESS per car on incentives for June versus May. Good theory though

Just goes to show how far great marketing will go, versus reality.

What I mean is............... the media was expecting Fords sales to be down significantly, due to the GM promotion............. but they weren't (they were actually up 1% for all brands combined, and Ford (brand) car sales were up 9%). Where were the sales stolen from???

Also, what percentage of these sales were stolen from themselves????

I do realize that coming up with actual numbers is probably close to impossible. It would just be real interesting to know.

Conquest sales are easy to measure........... but aren't entirely accurate. By this, I mean that it is easy to see that someone who bought their new GM didn't own one prior. What isn't known, is how many of those people were actually looking to buy a GM anyway (and this promotion just moved them faster).

Anyway, just paint me curious.
Conquest sales are conquest sales. And accurate. My understanding is that when someone buys a GM and didnt own one before, thats a conquest sale.

The reason GM can sell so much more cars in June and Ford did too is b/c the total number of new car buyers between the two is up.

WHen is the last time you bought coke or Pepsi at full price?
How about ice cream (i know I wait for the Edy's 2/$500 sale and buy 4)
Who is ever going to buy another GM vehicle close to msrp? (and i mean the general public, not you, a car enthisiast)

Everyone will now wait for the summer emplyee pricing discount to get rid of the older models and not have to haggle price.

Score another for the "K.I.S.S." principle.

What goes up unnaturally must come down, often in worse measure. The euphoria so many feel reminds me of the summer of '29 as millions gleefully added up their Wall Street winnings. Watch for the bear, he lurks around the corner. Now some will call me crazy, caution you wait and see just how wise the program. See the NJ dealer who "gave back" his Ford franchise to make room for Toyota expansion. GM is like the Titanic, the captain is at full throttle, unaware of the danger of his course.
