John McCain is trading in his Cadillac CTS.

Figure we needed some lighter news around here.

On Tuesday June 16, 2009, 9:10 am EDT
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Former Republican presidential nominee John McCain is getting a new set of wheels.

The Arizona senator said on his Twitter feed Monday that he was buying a new Ford Fusion Hybrid. His office says he's getting the 2010 hybrid in silver and was impressed by its fuel-efficiency.

The hybrid gets 41 miles per gallon in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. McCain's spokeswoman says the senator was "sold when he left the parking lot."

McCain is replacing his Cadillac CTS, which he has used to drive around Washington, D.C.
For what it's worth, Obama drove a new Chrysler 300C when he was a senator. He traded it in on a Ford Escape hybrid just before he ran for President.

Like John McCain regarding his CTS, Obama had high complements for his ride (though he riddiculed his 1st car.. a 70's Ford Granada).

Even a senator doesn't want to own a car from Government Motors.

I kid. Really though, it's not at all surprising that his new choice is a hybrid. At least he had enough sense to make it a Ford.

Ford's hybrids are really good and in political view a safe choice. Ford still has the connotation of representing the common mans vehicle.

I have no doubt that once the Volt comes out there will be several politicians getting one to be seen in. In between taxpayer paid limo services of course.

Very politically safe car, and an excellent over all choice either way. Ford is the only American company making a decent hybrid. The new Fusion hybrid is very impressive.

The Fusion Hybrid is a great car. Good choice.

Apparently Mr. McCain needed a change, too.

The car won't help his image, though.

And what is that, one of being "one tough SOB?"

Considering the fact that he (or at least his wife) could buy a Lambo LP 670-4 SV for pretty much every person she met on any given day and not care about it, this is nothing but political BS. McCain's commute likely consists of hopping aboard a Bell Jetranger to the Gulfstream 5 to the Maybach to the garage where the Fusion will be stashed so he can drive the last couple of blocks to the office.

Even so, it's a nice family sedan.

I assume he has security. Probably rides in the back seat of a Chevy Suburban.

I wonder if the president has ever even seen his Ford Escape. That is one thing that sucks about the job, not driving.

If I had to drive an Escape hybrid every day, I probably wouldn't mind too much.

The Secret Service would never allow the President to drive on his own. Especially in anything unarmored.

I think that would be tough for a lot of us car fans as when I've had cool cars used them to just get away from everything for a while and enjoy the drive.
Although having the Presidential Limo, Marine 1 and Air Force 1 at your disposal doesn't hurt.

"Hello VIR? Yes this is the President, were renting the track for the weekend, me and the secret service boys need to hone our evasive manuevering... Can't miss me, I'll be in the black ZR1 that says PREZ44".

If I were president, that's exactly what I'd do.

Exactly. I'm pretty sure that if he had his wealth and power in the private sector instead of politics, he wouldn't be driving a Fusion hybrid. Plus with all the houses (and I think multiple cars) that he owns, he can hardly lay claim to being a friend of the environment. Personally, I tend to think a lot less of a politician for such blatant pandering.

Classic. I can see Marine 1 landing on the infield, with five or six ZR1's coming off a secured trailor.
Would Obama's ZR1 be called Blue Devil 1?
