As good as the new Malibu and some of the other GM products are, I think people are hesitant to take chances in this economy. Not only with spending for a new vehicle, but also buying from GM -- there's a lot of questions about what would happen to warranties, parts availability, etc should GM go out of business. Combined with the fact that a lot of the buyers may have old-world perceptions of GM (cheap, unreliable, "appliance"), they're just not willing to risk it.

I really like what Hyundai is doing with their assurance program. GM's going to have to give a little to get a little in this market.
