With the stated price and weight. If it did(and..erm...in America) I would be waiting at the dealership, cash in hand. Not from admiration of the old car, but because it would just make a great, fun-to-drive, cheap car that would have great potential down the road for mods.
Toyota's developing a new AE86.

For those not into the import scene, the original "AE86", or 1985-1987(AE86 is 1986 specific) Toyota Corolla GT-S, was/is admired for its light weight, a high-revving engine, fun-to-drive characteristics, and ease of control when the rear end broke loose
EDIT- Oops. I posted a link to the picture, but not the article...

Not my cup of tea but good luck to ya.
And the best news of all? The committee's final directive is to keep the new car's sticker price below 1.5million Yen. That's about $12,300 USD in today's money.
Damn, spec racing is ****ty

Neither of these cars are even in production, and this(the new AE86) will probably never make it to production with the quoted price or weight...
Cheap/lightweight/RWD = Great in my book. Especially in this day and age.
