Irony of the year. I saw a Falcon UTE on the way home today!
I was driving home from work today, headed towards Belmont Shores, and of all ironies, a Falcon UTE passed me headed in the opposite direction
I managed to turn around & caught up with the driver back downtown when he parked past LB Blv. I figured I was going to get another chance to talk with someone from Ford about the Falcon, but it turned out to be a guy who was on assignment here from Australia, who instead of renting or leasing a car for a year, it was cheaper for him (including depriciation) to simply bring his UTE over with him.
It was an electric blue XR8 250 Pursuit. I spoke with him for awhile, and he mentioned how almost every day someone came close to causing a wreak, and how every time he stopped for gas, or went out, he was questioned about the car. His impression was naturally, Ford would sell every single one they brought here, if they would.
One of the things that stood out about the car, that isn't as obvious in Australia as it is here is that those Falcons are not small!!! When I was following it, the striking thing was it seemed very wide and low. When he went inside (he had to file the paperwork to ship it back) I took a few pictures including a side by side picture with my Z. Ironically, the Falcon looked more intimidating than my sunken light 97.
In case you were wondering, it cost him $1000 to ship the car over a year ago, and $2000 to ship it back. You can bring cars into the US for 12 months, then you have to either ship it back or it gets confiscated, and possibly destroyed if you don't pay a fine & get it out of the country.

If you didn't want to put 'em up, you shouldn't have said anything dude!!!

(I'll host 'em for a while if you need me to. PM me if so.)
The Holden Ute I saw (back in 2001) was the same way you described the Falcon Ute, guionM, low and wide. Another interesting aspect that I've noticed was that there is a GM a couple of blocks from where I saw the Ute (Las Colinas area of Irving, Tx). There is a Bennigans resturaunt that I go to right near the GM office, and in the back parking lot you can always see new GM cars. I've seen the lot filled with SS Camaros and Vettes before (
). Yesterday I was eating at the Bennigans and noticed that the back parking lot of the GM office had two 04 Grand Prixs, and a Silverado SS. I think this place is a hub for all the show cars because there was a display in downtown Ft. Worth during the NASCAR race week that had two 04 GPs and a Silverado SS. Still, interesting nontheless.

Just got the pictures back. After I put them on the floppy, does anyone know where I can post them?

I could put them up as well. Email them to me at spcampbe@southcom.com.au and they would be up in no time
