Intereasting C6 stuffs...

This is also from GM's remarks at Traverse city...

Let me give you just a teasers and details about the C6.

First, it will be more powerful. In baseball terms - and this is a quiz - think about Ted Williams' unmatched feat from 1941: His batting average.
A more athletic stance... longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs... Can't show you that today.
For the first time since 1962... fixed headlamps. Unlike the traditional pop-ups, this will allow the use of modern, high-technology lighting.
You'll notice the Corvette badge is a bit different as well, trimmer and more athletic to match the stance of the car itself.

That's one of the things I like the most about this site, we know all this before the Chevy guy ever says it to a reporter and it gets published.

Nothing we haven't heard I suppose, but the base HP is good news....didn't he hit .406 in 1941?

Yeah, quick search says Williams hit .406 in '41. Good news for prospective C6 buyers I suppose

I wish he hit .425 that year

Anyway, does that mean the base vette gets the 405hp LS6, and not the LS2? Kinda sounds like it.

Or does it mean it will have a 406 cubic inch engine?

I'd bet on the 406 as base horsepower.
....oops, that's Pete Rose.

I know, that's pretty bad.

A website which says many facts we have already discussed on this board says that the engine will be a small block with two valves per cylinder. Is a 406 a big block? If so we now know that 406 will be the hp rating of the base model. If the base model gets a LS6 I wonder what the Z06 will get?

Wow, very awesome numbers for base C6. Grab it before performance dies again, a la early 1970s.

I predict Z06 will be north of 450, more like 460 or 470. I don't think they will go as high as 500.

I'd bet on at least 450HP for the Z06. Although it would be cooler if it were 500HP.

It will probably be putting out 500hp.....but will be advertised as 450hp....ala LS1 motors.

So has anyone heard if there will be any significant advancement in chassis technology? Or will the frame of the car pretty much be a carry-over? The C5 was world-class in chassis terms when it came out, but these days its nothing special.

Chassis will have some tweaks from my understanding, but not revolutionary like the C5 was to the C4.

As far as the engine goes, my guess is that the LS2 will have 405hp, and the LS6 will be discontinued (at least for Corvette applications. May still go in CTSv and GTO maybe....think LT1's and LT4's in 1997)...and that the Z06 will have a rumored LS7 w/ larger displacement, and I'm betting 500hp. To be sure, whatever the HP, the ZO6 WILL be faster than a Viper this time around. I just can't imagine GM letting this one get away this time.

As far as the 406 being a big block, I know some tuners have gotten 427ci out of an LS1 block, but for some reason I'm thinking I read where someone even got 454ci out of one. Anyone hear that? My guess is that the Z06 will be around a 396ci, but 427 has a nice ring to it too. All from a "small" block engine.

Nothing special? Compared to what, "these days"?

It's not a matter of some tuners getting 427 out of an LS block.. there is a 427 LS block available over the counter at your friendly Chevy parts department.

Darton has a sleeve and you could stroke such an equipped LS to 454. I personally think you lose some RPM capability doing so. Too much cylinder volume can make emissions standards tougher to meet.

It's quite easy to get 500hp out of a 427 LS motor.
