Impala SS, handling...

Well got to be in the Impala SS today, and I can say it put me in my seat...
handling was good, smooth, very beautiful in and out, only one thing I might not like other then fwd, is that no manual trunk release... you cant open it without the battery, and since ours was on the showroom for a few weeks the battery was dead...

the dash was well laid out, and very good orginization, the leather is very comfortable... bumpy freeways went unnoticed and highway passing wow... its almost as quick as my lt1... I really like it

Had one on a track last week...and asked professional drivers to run it thru the course.......they were quite impressed.

I think some people should drive this car ...on a winding road.....before final judgement.

Scott - Where's the marketing department? How about some Impy SS vs. 300c/Magnum tests and results in commercials?? We know they are good cars, but does Jan Chow in Los Angeles? That's who GM should be going after...

Re: Impala SS, handling...

As much as the new Impala is an improvement over the old model, the styling is still very much 80s. It looks like an outdated Camry, IMO. No matter how good the car, the styling might deter potential customers. Hopefully, GM will address the styling issue with the next-gen car. A Chevy really must reflect the great performance/dynamics with a beautiful skin, there's no excuses for mundane looks.

Having said that, kudos to GM for getting the interior and dynamics up to industry standard. In V8 form, it would be better than the Camry/Accord in general cruisability, so it should win over those who consider performance as high on their list.

Just my 2C.

The Impala Is in no way competing with the camry/accord... at least this one is much too large to be in that catagory, thats the competition of the malibu, although in the catalog gm compares the impala directly to the camry. This Impala is a lot bigger then earlier models i believe... it has a very large presence...

Not only are they FWDs, surely they're comparable by way of space and most importantly, price.

Re: Impala SS, handling...

Saw one on the freeway today. I passed it & was about 3 car lengths ahead, and checking my rearview mirror to return to that lane before I noticed it. The new Impala blends into the scenery like a like a dotted line.

The car looks good, but it's almost as if the guy drawing the car looked out his window and picked a car to base the design on, but it took 5 years to get it to the showroom.

Though it makes my skin crawl to say this, but I prefer the old Impala's distinctiveness to the new Impala's invisibility.
