Impala prices revealed...some nice surprises

Looks like the car will be priced fairly competitively...here's a few snip-its I pulled from GM Auto Book while at work today...

1) LT 3.9 MSRP = $25,420
What you get: The LT will be standard with the 3.5, but apparently the 3.9 is available too. Standards include 17" alloy wheels, ABS, a spoiler, fog lights, remote start, all power goodies including drivers seat. Option prices include heated leather with a power passenger seat for $1,095, a 6 CD for $295 and a moonroof for $900.

2) LTZ 3.9 = $27,530
Additions over LT 3.9 = The heated leather package, heated mirrors, Home-link, fold down rear seat (which may be optional in other models), auto-dimming mirror, and get this...BOSE

3) SS = $27,895
Option prices and standard equipment appear to be the same as the LT 3.9, except for where the SS obviously steps up over the LT (aka 18s, etc).

I know my pricing leaves a ton of questions and gaps, but I priced these particular cars out in order to get to the MC SS and 3.9 prices (for some reason MC was added to Auto Book this week, but prices weren't).

So, for those of you expecting your $30k SS, not quite!! For $2k less than the Charger R/T, with what appears to be a nicer interior and the same level of standard equipment, its at least as competitive.

Not to mention almost as fast, seeing as how it is within 40hp and weighs almost 400 lbs less

Excellent pricing. It's nice to see the SS is just barely priced over the LTZ. That, I think, would bring a lot more people to jump to the SS (and the fact it has almost the same fuel economy as the sixer.)

Well remember, the SS loses the standard leather, Bose, Home-Link/heated mirror/auto-dimming mirror package and a couple other small items. But yeah, I thought under $28k was perfect!

Well, its standard on the LTZ, or $495 extra on the other models.

I'll wait and see how this Bose is compared to other Bose systems I've seen in GM cars. But if its anything like the Bose in my dad's TrailBlazer, the pre-'04 Grand Prixs, various Cadillacs etc., it will suck. Period.

Nice pricing! Almost is fast is correct, but also wrong wh---oh you what I'm going to say, hehe.

The 5.3 is turning into a really impressive motor. Be awesome to see it spread through a revised line-up.

Very competative pricing. Good work GM

THe real question between this can and the Charger is are you willing to pay $2000 more just for RWD? I know the answer around here is yes, but I doubt main steam America would.

Re: Impala prices revealed...some nice surprises

I agree, the Charger is even growing on me. But honestly, I still would take the Chevy. Make it an attractive color and add some rims, and I think its a nicer car. Of course, I subscribe to the FWD/snow factor as well, so that's admittedly part of my reasoning. Time will tell, but I think with this pricing the SS and especially the LTZ will do very well. Both cars have impressive content for the $$, IMO.

Next week when I go in I'm going to price out some LS models too, and see how much you can get for the least...

What's with the Bose bashing?
I have it in my 95 and it works fine for me...
Maybe I'm just happy with whatever comes factory. I never was one to upgrade anything car audio wise.

I was wondering about the Boise bashing myself.

I never had any complaints about the Bose setup in my '94 Z. In fact, I'd take that thing in a heartbeat over my current "500 watt" (yeah right ) Monsoon system. The Bose did more with less speakers than any factory system I've ever heard. Bass was deeper and crisper and didn't break up at near as low a volume as the Monsoon does.

Re: Impala prices revealed...some nice surprises

I can tell you this about the Bose. Their acoustic resonace chambers, or whatever they call their subwoofer substitutes, are not what I would want in my automobile if I listened to music loudly. I have a buddy who works in an electronics department at a Circuit City, and he and another co-worker decided to test out just how well the bass sounded at higher levels. Apparently, at a high enough level, it starts to distort badly, and so they said, you can smell the speaker burning. This was an expensive home theater display unit too. Their speakers may be good, but this isn't the first time I have heard of this kind of crap happening to their patented bass type speakers.

"Circuit City here I come....ALLLLLL of the car audio experts are at Circuit City!!!"

You've got to be kidding me. Bose is just fine for a "standard" audible system in a production vehicle. Hell, I'd love to have Bose in the 'rents '99 Jimmy. That thing would kick as it does in my Grand Am!
