Question If and when we get a new Camaro how would you like to see the options lined up?

This came up a lot on the stang boards when the 05 was discussed. Some people want a stripped pony/muscle car, some people want every option under the sun. Heated seats, NAV, sat radio...

I think if and when we get one, the Camaro should come with more amenities than the new stang, that could sway a lot of buyers. Of course all should be deletable.

Id probably load mine up, heated seats etc etc... although I probably wouldnt get nav and Im not sure they'd offer HUD. It'd end up as more of my fun car rather than my race car, as I have RS to do that.

But everything should be an option. I wouldnt want to start out with a base car, then have one box named "Super Creature Comfort Package" box which comes with the kitchen sink, but no options in the middle. Want pl/pw but not heated seats? Fine.

Yeah, option packages really stink. The ability to check and uncheck any and all options is desireable. And all in all, I think the Camaro should be AVAILABLE with lots of options, but if you want one with nothing, then you should be able to get it.

I think Red Planet once explained that wiring harnesses were one major reason why options are often only offered in packages rather than seperately...

Apparently there is a ton of cost in having different wiring harnesses.

I'm no engineer, but you'd think you'd be able to have one "universal" harness that would accomidate all or any combination of the optional equipment.... therefore allowing a more "pick and choose" menu of options like was available in the 60's and such.

Maybe this is not possible for some reason, or perhaps it's even more cost prohibative than what is already in place, but it at least seems logical on the surface....

Is there any reason that you couldnt have ONE wiring harness, with leads for everything on the option sheet, and just use dongle-type attachments for the leads going to options not on that particular build?

I would like my Z28 to be equipped similar to a C-5 Z06.
The C-6 Z06 looses the whole Z06 formula with heated/airconditioned seats, navigation, ect. Make that stuff available for the whimps that get convertible/automatic Vettes and Camaros.

Alot of people on this board complain they don't want a $40,000 Camaro.
If there weren't option packages and cars came stripped that $40,000 ++++
Camaro would become a reality. In order to keep costs down car lines have to have the same equipment across the board.

Yeah I know that the more diverse options get the more it drives up the base price...

Thats acceptable to a degree, I don't think most people would have a problem spending 2,3k more on a faster, better looking, better optioned Camaro over a stang.

definitely NO option packages!!! just give me a list with boxes next to it and a pen and let me check what i want and dont want. also, it'd be nice if you could tell them to take stuff off too. ex. the new Z06 is cool, but the only thing i'd ever use is the HUD and AC. let me tell them to get rid of XM, NAV, ETC. ETC. that'd be sweet.

I'd want it to be so I could still get a nice one for under 30K or even 25!

One of the cool things about the 93-02 is that no two were alike! camaro's could be had so many different ways it's kinda cool to just compare options!

Re: If and when we get a new Camaro how would you like to see the options lined up?

I don't like being limited as to what I can order like the new Mustangs are. I love the optional wheels on the V-6 Mustang and hate the GT wheels. If I were ordering a Mustang I would want a GT with the V-6 optional wheels, but that would be an incredible hassle to get most likely.

I think every piece of current technology should be optional in all 3 specs of Camaro. I want a Z28 with paddle shifters, navigation, and other things that other cars offer. I like all the stuff they put in the new C6 Corvette but don't want to get a Corvette. I want a damn Z28 that doesn't have to play the technological second-fiddle to the Corvette. My Camaro design a week ago shows what I want. I can't afford to invest in a PDA, ipod, and all that other crap just to eventually lose it or break it so I want the ability to play MP3s and crap in my 5th gen Camaro!

Hell... I would pay a few thousand more dollars just to have a switch to flip to change to 4 cylinder mode for when I'm just cruising... It's no fair that you have to get something hideous like a BMW or an "old people car" to get features like that. I'm 19 years old, I want some options that actually upgrade me to the year 2005.

I wasnt commenting on the actual feasability of it, and how much it would cost and such nonsense. I was simply stating what I wanted. But seriously, its stupid that what im asking for would make the car that much more expensive.

Re: If and when we get a new Camaro how would you like to see the options lined up?

I'd pay $40,000 for a Camaro if it had everything from the C6 I want plus paddle shifters :-p. (I wonder if I say paddle shifters enough GM will get the hint?) I can't afford that right now... but I would probably buy it anyway with a loan or two. There isn't really anything that would prevent Chevy from doing this. Heck, other car companies do it, if you piled all the options onto a new Mini Cooper S it would be over $40,000 but it starts at $22,000 or something as the S model.

Oh, and for future reference, if anyone feels the need to quote me and say something asinine, I'll say it now. I don't want a Corvette. I want a Camaro. I want 4 seats and a functional trunk (preferably hatch), not a 2 seater and 2 different roofs. Okay?
