Question If GM bankruptcy cancels contracts/agreements....

If GM bankruptcy cancels contracts/agreements/etc.. Then would the deal that says Impala must be built in Ontario be canceled too? Couldn't they then use the Impala name on an Australian built 2010 Holden Commodore?

Maybe. GM Canada did not file for bankruptcy, so it depends on which specific entities were involved in that agreement.

I don't know if any contracts are now void. If the UAW gave up nothing and all those contracts are still intact, then I would believe that contracts related to what vehicles are to be built at what plants are still intact. It's a very strange "bankruptcy".

It just seems like a good chance to free the Impala name. I hope they take advantage of it, that is of course as long as the 2010 Commodore is going to be imported.

Contracts are not automatically void in a bankruptcy. GM can ask the judge to void any contract that it wants to have voided, and the judge will decide whether to scrap it or not. If GM wants to retain the contract, they simply do not ask the judge to void it. At this point, GM is happy with their UAW contract, so it will remain, as will supplier contracts, and a whole bunch of other contracts.

GM Canada is not involved in the GM bankruptcy. So, you won't see any contract with the CAW or Canadian Government canceled.
